daifuku74
We all know it could be easy for a faker to take a 9A559 dmg, to change the string in the file where 9A559 is writtten (i won't name it not to give a clue to fakers even its easy to find out) to lets say 9A581 for example in the system that is bootable on the DVD. [in fact fakers do not take such application it seems...] But does someone know if this value changed in the bootable DVD would stay the same in the very same preference file on the OS freshly installed on the HD? That could lead to some paranoia like thinking you got the right one installed and in fact not... gotta try that for curiosity but if someones knows i'd be glad to know. I know my english is messy I hope you can get the idea. thanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67004-system-version-number-file/ Share on other sites
Shrimp
Well if Apple didn't add any "noticeable" features into the new build then that's fully possible, and I think if someone was smart enough to edit an OSx86 distro they'd figure out where that string is. It only took me about 3 minutes. lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67004-system-version-number-file/#findComment-475357 Share on other sites
daifuku74
the install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg/Contents/version.plist If I change the value in this one, it's what will appear in the "about my mac" window once installed??? I'm not talking about Apple changing it for no reason but just to know if someone can disguise a 559 into a 581. now is it clearer? helios
in terminal type: sudo uname -a then check the kernel version... that's a simple way to check for fakes.. the current 559 uses version 9.0.0b5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67004-system-version-number-file/#findComment-475647 Share on other sites
