Hey guys im really close to getting this working on vmware. I have installed everything fine was having a problem with not getting anything after booting but i solved it by booting to the dvd and going into the terminal and typing

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

print

auto hsf

print

write

after that i reinstalled by creating a partition called mac os x that i mounted in the disk utility and finished the installation. after that i rebooted and finally got sings of something happening. just when i thought it was about to boot it hangs. ive attached a video of the startup process on vmware to the error. that might help.

thanks for any help. btw i used uphucks 10.4.9 revision 3 iso

Mac.wmv

Used the "Windows NT" VM selection and only selected the base install without the extra patches, apps or drivers and it worked! When I installed everything I got the same result as you.

Note:

I am using VMware 5.5.5.

I also found that changing the partition type to MBR (Dos Compatible) from the default GUID allowed it to boot without having to install to an external drive.
