Clavit2000
Hello: This is my first post (but i follow this forums since tiem ago), I am quite new to Apple, i am using Windows Vista now (yes, i know ) on a Dell Inspiron 1720, and before Windows Xp (better ), and i would like to test Mac OS X. I think it must be quite better than Windows. But there is a problem: the only way to test Mac OS X is to use a Hackintosh (i think there aren´t testing licenses or similar). So, after reading this forums a lot, i find that there are too much information for me, and is difficult for me to know how to build a cheap and 100% working machine to test this great operative system. So, my question is that: i would like to build a cheap machine to test Tiger now, and maybe Leopard later, and if i find it really great, buy a Macbook or iMac as it should be done. Well, maybe another posibility could be to buy a second hand Mac (powerpc, Mac Mini, etc) to test, but anyway i think this is more expensive. I don´t want to play games or hard software, so my machine doesn´t need to be the newest hardware, just something that makes the OS run fluid. As i said, it's just for testing purposes, but i'd like everything could work 100%, above all graphics. Then i think you could help me to decide of buying some of the components: - Processor: i know intel are more compatible, maybe a Celeron D could be ok - Motherboard: there are many, what is the most compatible chipset, integrated lan...? - Graphics card: if it could be integrated in mobo, it could be better (and cheaper ) The rest of componentes i think i know what to buy, and the software to install from, i know too I read wiki to test hardware, but i can´t find about 10.4.10. Maybe there is a threath similar to this, if so, could you tell me ? Thanks in advance. Clavit2000
Hello again: I have been reading more in depth this forums, and i found a good candidate would be an Asus P5GZ-MX, powered by a Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160. I have been reading almost everything works ok (with two patches). Would this be ok for the price, or there is a better choice ? I am a bite worried about integrated GMA950, is it ok for Leopard ? It seems that this motherboard is not good for updating to a better graphics card. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66625-build-a-cheap-machine-to-test-os-x/#findComment-473454 Share on other sites
shoarthing
Hi - buy an Intel dual-core mac mini [s/h if neccessary] to try OSX out . . you will be able to sell it for a decent price - s/h macs keep their value well compared to PCs. Clavit2000
Well, buying a second hand mac mini is a possibility, but i think make my own computer to try is still cheaper Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66625-build-a-cheap-machine-to-test-os-x/#findComment-473496 Share on other sites
