dannyw
Hello everyone I gave it my best shot trying to install osx for the first time on a PC over the last 2 days by simply reading all of the posts I could find. I am able to boot the dvd, and install osx on one of my 2 sata drives after the install is completed, I cannot get osx to boot unless i remove the sata drive that has windows vista on it. I have tried hitting F8, etc, all the procedures to get into osx, but it just forces a boot to vista when i remove the vista drive, I am able to choose to boot osx. when i do, the screen goes to apple, changes color, then tells me to restart or hold the power button down i tried typing -x then -v -v -x -f (someone told me to) all of these commands have the same result, it flies through a list, then ends up at something that says something about Kernel. I cannot type, or do anything at this point unless I power off the machine First, what is wrong that I cannot even opt to boot osx with the vista drive installed? it goes straight to vista second, what is going on when i remove the drive and do get to this screen? my system is the HP Pavilion dv8230us. the specs are listed below. can anyone advise me on getting through this? also - I see that there is problems getting the wireless working with this card i do have 2 other wireless cards i can use, the intel 2200 i believe, and 2100. i cant recall. anyway, i really appreciate the help. if i can get through this, i will followup with a detailed writeup procedure and post it. thanks dan Product Name dv8230us US Product Number EU006UA#ABA Microprocessor 1.66 GHz Intel® Centrino® Duo mobile technology featuring Intel® Core™ Duo processor T2300 Microprocessor Cache 2MB L2 Cache Memory 1024MB 667MHz DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Memory Max 2048MB Video Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 Video Memory 128MB discrete + 128MB shared Hard Drive 160GB (5400RPM) Dual Hard Drive (80GB x 2) Multimedia Drive LightScribe 8X DVD±RW and CD-RW Combo Drive with Double Layer Support Display 17.0” WXGA+ High-Definition BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900) Fax/Modem High speed 56k modem Network Card Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector) Wireless Connectivity Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection Sound Altec Lansing Keyboard Notebook keyboard with scroll bar and integrated numeric keypad 2 Quick Launch Buttons (HP Quick Play Music and DVD buttons) 1 Calculator Launch Button Pointing Device Touch Pad with dedicated vertical Scroll Up/Down pad PC Card Slots 1 ExpressCard/54 Slot (also supports ExpressCard/34) 1 Type I/II 32-bit card bus (also support 16-bit) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/66142-frustrating-install-on-hp-dv8000-dv8230us-need-guidence/ Share on other sites
thestevo
Ok, first off, the problem with the vista/os x at boot time issue is because you don't have Vista's bootloader giving you the option to boot OS X. Right now your BIOS sets the Vista drive as the default to boot from, in its absence it moves to the OS X drive. For now you can change the boot order in your BIOS, then look on the forum for information about bootloaders. There are many different options for how to go about it. The other thing is a kernel panic. Its a most wonderful thing. It can be caused by extensions or incompatibility with your hardware. A common thing is to delete AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. However there are many other possibilities for what it could be. Its best to have the latest installer, which gets you close to the latest kernel. Then, research your computer for what other people had to do to install. If nobody has worked with your model, then experiment and post your findings. Try to research the components of the computer in order to put together what works and what won't. No sound input, buggy USB(unless plugged in before boot) and no PCMCIA support (there is a fix but i need help editing the kext for our model). There is actually a 4th in that you can forget getting the onboard wireless working for now anyway - lan works flawlessly. Be sure to install the AzaliaAudio for sound output... Install OSX on SATA drive 2 and during bios post hit "ESC" to change boot order and select the second drive. No loaders or anything; the system treats whatever you choose as the primary disk. Hope this helps...
