Hey all, something totally weird happened to my MBP recently, and since all the help I've gotten so far hasn't yielded any results, I figured I'd try to see if anyone here has an answer.

So basically, I was taking the train to work two days ago and was using headphones so no one would be disturbed. Then during lunch, I rebooted into Windows to get some Bioshock time in (hey, I have a 2 hour lunch break). After work, when I got home, I booted back into OSX and when I opened iTunes, there was no sound. So I went to hit the F5 key to turn the volume up, and there was the circle with the line going through it thingy below the volume bars. I then went into System Preferences, and then into sound, and clicked on Output. To my dismay, Speakers, or whatever else it should say, wasn't there, just digital-out, and Soundflower. The weirdest thing to me is that the power-on sound plays, and sound works in BootCamp, but just not in OSX.

Applecare told me to reset the PROM. Didn't work. Then remove the battery, hold down the power button for 5 seconds, reinstall battery, reboot. Still nothing. Then they recommended a fresh install of OSX. I tried reinstalling Tiger and Leopard, and the Welcome videos were totally silent.

So does anyone know what I can do to get speaker sound back? Thanks in advance.

So the guys at MacFixIt helped me out with this issue. Apparently, there are some bad left-side I/O boards out there, which I unfortunately have. If you look into the headphone jack and there's a red light, that means that the computer thinks there's still something in there. It was something about the copper connection and the computer thinking there's a TOSLINK installed. All I had to do was repeated put in and remove the headphone jack until the red light disappears. It's really annoying, but at least it works.
