hobes Posted January 9, 2006 Share Posted January 9, 2006 I have the "10.4.3_8f1099 patched 1.1a.iso" disk image for OS x86, which comes with the Maxxuss patch already done. I've burned it to DVD, but when it boots and I hit any key it just gives a message saying "You must restart your computer". (It's in the GUI though, not the CLI) The harddrive I want it to go on is setup as so: ~140gb is a Primary NTFS partition (Windows is not installed here, but it contains files I'd rather keep) ~7gb is a Primary AF partition set with diskpart (Also the Active partition) This drive remains the slave drive for the moment, while I need to keep hopping in and out of Windows. Is this the problem? I tried running it as the master (and only) drive, but my USB keyboard wouldn't work so I couldn't hit any key. OSx86 seems to be installing within VMWare on a VMWare Virtual Disk, but I want to run it natively. PC Spec: P4 3.2ghz w/ HT Asus P4P800 (i think) motherboard 1gb RAM Nvidia 6600GT graphics Anyone got any ideas? jbjonas Posted January 9, 2006 Share Posted January 9, 2006 Perhaps (1) you need to go into your bios and make sure that the hard drive you want to load to is selected as the first boot hd (I have a similar mobo) and also make the 1st boot device your dvd drive and 2nd the hard drive. I say this because I never had to hit any key to boot to my osx86 DVD, only when using the xp boot loader. (2) have you done all the suggested md5 checking when making your dvd in the first place? It is not unlikely that there is a problem with the boot disc to begin with. Don't give up though... My asus P4C800Deluxe is running great! hobes Posted January 9, 2006 Author Share Posted January 9, 2006 The DVD seems fine, as it's installed and works fine in VMWare (allbeit slowly, obviously). That's using the DVD I burned, with my actual DVD-RW connected in VMWare. I don't know what the MD5 should be as the image is pre-patched. The DVD-RW is the first boot device (it's a Pioneer DVR-110, not sure if that makes a difference), with the hard drive following. And regarding the press any key, when the DVD boots the Darwin menu says "Press any key to setup Mac OSx" or something along those lines. For some reason, whenever I get a failed attempt at the OSx86 setup my USB keyboard won't work in the BIOS (or outside of an OS at all) until I reboot into Windows and then out again. The motherboard doesn't have on board graphics, would that matter? jbjonas Posted January 9, 2006 Share Posted January 9, 2006 (edited) Hmmm, my mobo doesn't have onboard graphics either, and that never seemed to matter to me. My DVD is very similar Pioneer DVD-120 but I used my Lite-On DVD-RW to install, regardless I'm guessing that's not your problem. As far as keyboards and mice, I had trouble mixing ps/2 and usb devices. There are multiple threads about that already. Now I know what you mean by the press any key menu though. Other than that I think I'm lost, as I used a slightly different version of the disc and went the long way. I had to patch my own .iso after converting from a .dmg and then burn to DVD. I used an awesome guide from some torrent that came with instructions, md5 sums to check, and other torrent files for the neccesary parts. I'd send you the link to the torrent but it's forbidden on here. perhaps you can find someone else who used the same image as you successfully and get an md5 to check against the image you used. In fact I'm sure that the official correct md5 sum for that image should be on the wiki here somewhere... My soundcard isn't on the list (SB Audigy), but the motherboard's onboard sound is (AC97, the patched ISO has those drivers already). Here's the kernel panic from running it in Verbose and Single User... edit - Everything else is. There's no mouse connected, as I only have a bluetooth mouse with me at the moment. edit2 - If I could get Darwin x86 installed, could I simply install OSx86 over it?
