ANYBODY sucessful with the Sony SZ-series? I have a SZ5WXN/C I would love to hackintosh... but after trying numerous schemes to get the gma950 working with the LED-screen, NO luck.

The install ( both JAS 10.4.8 and Uphucks 10.4.9) seem to run fine, but when after first boot, the display freaks out, with dark lines that fade to white... seems like it might be a dreaded backlighting problemo...

any advice?

Thanks for the tip, but my problem remains... I had, in fact, tried the gma900 package instead of the gma950 that the sony vaio SZ5 laptop actually has, because on one post someone with a Sony-SZ4 they wrote that the gma900-patch was the only way to get QE and CI activated.

But I cannot even get OSX installed on this Sony SZ5, because the screen remains absolutely black, then line-by-line glows up into an intense white screen. I have also tried an external monitor to no avail.

Seems strange to me that a "normal" gma950 with the intel 945-chipset would be causing me so many headaches. I thought these were the easiest combos for OSX86, but believe me, this damn Sony SZ5 has been the most frustrating to me yet, hackintosh-wise, and I have dealt with quite a few OSX86-rigs in the last 2 years.

Any other ideas, please?

For those who are interested:

PROBLEM for the SZ5 solved!

Trick for installing Jas 10.4.8 (other installs would not work):

do NOT add any patches except the ATA kext at install - no NOT even ANY video drivers!

After first boot, add the GMA950 patch I've included here. I recommend using the KEXT-helper if you do not know terminal commands.

Boot again and you should have all resolutions and CI/QE activated.

Both Cores recognized, seems quite FAST!

For LAN and SOUND see the wiki HCL-list. Someone wrote a very good guide there.

Did you update yours to 10.4.9 or the latest Leopard?

Hurrah boom-bang (!)

Yes I took the plunge installing LEO on the SZ5... using Kaly's wonderful release... AND IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!

Super-fast-easy install, yes indeed. Using MBR (dual boots with XP via Chain0), efi and vanilla kernel.

I might even replace the Wifi mini-pcie to get it working like a true Mac.

Now I still have to deal with patching the sound: anyone have luck with the Sigmatel and Taruga patch with Leo?

UPDATE: Taruga Patcher 1.20 works, had to boot to Tohkernel to patch, now SOUND WORKS!
