merkman
Greetings all. This is my first post here, so be gentle. Like many of you, I heard about the wonders of OS X on the Intel platform and decided to give it a try. I followed the instructions as found here... http://www.i-hacked.com/index.php?option=c...d=202&Itemid=42 to the letter, installing 10.4.1 and getting it setup correctly for use on a Shuttle SB86i box. I currently have an Intel 3.0 GHz 630 CPU in there, 512MB of Kingston Value Ram (soon to be 1GB (2x512MB of Corsair XMS), a Seagate SATA 160GB HD, and today I bought a D-Link DWL-G122 Hardware Version B1 wireless USB network adapter for the PC. Though the OS installs ok, the PC doesn't reboot after a fresh reinstall. Like others here, the circle spins and nothing happens. So I power down the PC, power it back on, and I'm able to configure OS X, etc. Shut downs work fine, and I believe it will reboot if I boot the system in safe mode with -x. With -v, I see an error message when I attempt to reboot about "USBF : Device at USBRootHub" and something about can't close correctly or something. The memory addresses change, but the basic idea remains the same. So, then since most of the OS worked, I wanted to install a wireless network adapter so I don't need to run 25' of CAT5 over to that room for networking. I installed the device driver for the PCI Bus, but those didn't work. So I uninstalled those, and installled the USB ones. They didn't work either. So I'm just really confused. If I put the D-Link in my Windows MCE box, the adapter is detected, installed, and ready to go. Same unit in the Intel Mac, and nothing. Would appreciate hearing if there are options I'm missing for some of these issues, etc. The SB86i is basically the same as another Shuttle that is SAID to work, with the Intel 915G chipset, Intel 900 video, 7.1 sound, etc. I think I can get the sound working with instructions found here on OSx86. But I definately could use some help with the other stuff found above. Tearabite
The fact that the USB Wireless works in Windows means nothing.. OS x aint Winders! find the newest Ralink (i think it's called) drivers for OS x and install.. that should fire up the adaptor.. . merkman
In order for the drivers to "install", I need to be able to restart (reboot) the computer. But at this point, that's still a no go. Last night, I disconnected the "card reader" on the front of the SB86i case, and disabled the onboard audio, usb, serial, parallel, and network port. But a reinstall later, and I STILL can't restart the system. It just seems to lock up. I guess maybe there is something about the Shuttle SB86i system that is just not compatible. Or else maybe I need to try a different installation procedure. Anyone have any other ideas??? jmflexas
First, sorry for my English. I have a sb86i and I can not reboot, too. I think there is some incompatibility with the BTX system. Any other idea? A search here on the forums yielded some posts by others who are experiencing the same thing. One guy said he believes the particular installation disk he used containing the JaS patches are at fault here. Other's have identified it as an ACPI failure (whatever that is). I wasn't able to reboot after installation either so I did it manually. Someone said the rebooting issue isn't present in Wesley's original 8f1111 disk but I've yet to confirm that. I'm trying to make my present installation work because I'd rather not do this all over again. If you get any new information on the matter, please update me.
