thedude9
Hi, I'm using an E520 Dell PC, running windows vista with a Core 2 Duo CPU. I downloaded Kalyway 10.4.10, it is supposed to work with the E520. I know this is very basic, but I've no idea how to burn the DVD. The downloaded file (kalyway) has two folders: OSX and Kalyway 10.4.10. Inside each is an iso file, a .ds file and in the kalyway folder is a zip file. The zip contains a .mkext that is labeled "works with dell E520". I assume I need to use this .mkext. Which files do I burn, what do I do with the .mkext, and what program should I use? Thanks alot for any help. -Justin Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64352-need-help-basic-dvd-burning/ Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Alright: 1) Extract the Extensions.mkext for the Dell E520 to the Kalyway 10.4.10 folder 2) Download and install Magic ISO Maker for Windows 3) Using Magic ISO, open the Kalyway ISO file (should be between 1.7 and 2.0 GB) 4) Inside the ISO file, right click on the Extensions.mkext file and click Delete 5) Drag the modified Extensions.mkext file (you extracted earlier, for dell E520) into the MagicISO window where the Kalyway ISO is open 6) Make sure that the modified Extensions.mkext for Dell E520 is inside the ISO and click the Save button in MagicISO 7) Burn your modified ISO to a DVD-R using Nero or any other burning program (select the Burn Image option) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64352-need-help-basic-dvd-burning/#findComment-455610 Share on other sites
thedude9
So, once I follow the steps above to make the DVD, I can just make a new partition, set it as active, restart and install from the disc? thedude9
I appreciate your help. I followed your instructions, but there was a problem. When I rebooted to the new partition the disk woudn't work. So I went to (in the BIOS) Boot Menu, boot from onboard/USB CD-ROM drive. I got this error - "selected boot device not available press F1 to retry F2 for setup menu. I retried several times, and rebooted. Same thing. Then I used an XP boot disc, which was recognised fine, to get back to the right partition and then I booted into windows. Any help is appreciated. -Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/64352-need-help-basic-dvd-burning/#findComment-456463 Share on other sites

Whenever I try to modify that file, the disc doesn't work. I check in in OS X's Disk Utilities and it says it's bad. Something must be corrupting it. Does anyone else know how to get this image patched (or working the way it should)? Any idea's ~pcwiz? thedude9, did you ever get it working? nylock10
I'm getting the same problem (Press F1 to retry boot or press F2 for Setup) when booting from ALL my DVDs. When booting from a CD it works fine Any ideas?
