jedavis1
With OS X on the older systems, there used to be an option for Upgrade install, Clean Install or Archive Install... What ever happened to those? Did Apple drop it or is it not there because these are modified install disks? Just wondering because after trying to upgrade a previous installation and it not working well, it would be nice to do and Archive install, but I never have that option, so the easiest way to clean the system off is to format the HD. I never keep any critical data on the partition, but after setting up apps and stuff, it would be nice to not have to reinstall the apps. On a side note, is there a way to put the user folder on a different partition than the OS? The applications on a different partition would be nice too. Thanks for any input. hecker
Moving the user directory has been discussed many times. Use the search function or google it. hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63848-what-ever-happened-to-archive-install/#findComment-451773 Share on other sites

Nikita
After installing Leopard my system won't boot. So I decided to install Tiger. Problem was that I have had only one partition and all my datas was in user directory. So to keep this folder after installing Tiger I have done folloing: 1) boot from your MAC OS X CD 2) open Terminal 3) remove all directories and files except Applications and Users 4) restart 5) install MAC OS X After instalation create new account and copy all datas you need from old account directory to new one. Hope this helps you. Bot to be honest I am not satisfyed with this solution, so igf someone knows a better solution to backup datas please post. I have installed Leopard and some Applications did't work after Tiger instalation, so you shuld in this case remove all system applications (iTunes, Safari, System Preferences), because they did't rewrites by Tiger. In other cases I think is is not necessary to remove system applications from Aplplications directory.
