jrdave2304
During the installation of OSx86 (i believe using JaS.Mac.OS.X.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.PPF.1.Defiant.diskut) on my system, I run into a problem at step #6 in this guide. Everything runs smoothly until it gets to the "Select Destination" part of the installation progress, as there is no destination for me to select. I'm assuming it has something to do with the install disc missing the SATA driver for my chipset. Well first, here's what I'm working with: AMD 64 3000+ (2.0GHz Newcastle) - SSE2 MSI K8T NEO-FIS2R (VIA K8T800 chipset) 160GB SATA HDD (connected to the VIA VT8237 on-board SATA controller) According to HCL 10.4.8 the SATA for my board does work. I'm wondering if someone can help me out with this problem or point me to a guide somewhere? Appreciate any help! yume2k3
Did you create HFS+ partition with Disk Utility? Hard drive doesnt appear in Disk Utility? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63542-sata-drivers/#findComment-449712 Share on other sites
jrdave2304
No I didn't create a HFS+ partition with Disk Utility. I only created a partition the way the guide told me to do. Disk Utility does show my hard drive with two partitions: "Untitled" and "disk0s2". The later is the volume I set aside for the OSx86 installation. However, I noticed that both of the mentioned partitions are greyed out. Did I miss a step or something and what should I do? I should've noted earlier that the current operating system installed is Vista Home Premium. BJMoose
One more possibility...did you create your OSX partition as primary and active? Both are necessary for OSX86. This doesn't rule out the chipset, but it would eliminate one more possible cause of the problem. jrdave2304
In diskpart, both partitions are listed as Primary and I know the one I set aside for the OSx86 install is active because after exiting the OSx86 installer unsuccessfully it says I'm "Missing Operating System". I should've noted earlier that the current operating system installed is Vista Home Premium. on the left select the partition that you want to use even if it is grey , then on the right select erase and the format you want to use... it should then format it and it will be black .. If your drive shows up whether it is greyed out or not you can install on it... If you cant see the disk at all then no go... jrdave2304
Ok a new problem has arisen. Got through everything fine through creating the dual-boot menu. I re-boot, choose "Mac OS X" in the Windows Boot Manger, hit any key to enter startup options, choose the partition I installed OSx86 on, and boot with diagnostic messages (or without does the same thing). It finishes going through all the messages and it looks like it's going to load into the OS, but it doesn't and the monitor just turns off and nothing every appears on the screen. Any ideas on what the potential problem could be? GFX card is a Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9600XT (GV-R96X128D) edit: figured it out, nevermind Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63542-sata-drivers/#findComment-450658 Share on other sites
