mirage3d
hi there, does anyone here own the new mb pro 2.2 with nvidia 8600gt 128mb ? how is real-life graphics performance with games, 3d, and image/video editing? is the 128 mb ram too low for gaming and 3d or photoshop? the price difference between the 2.2 and the 2.4 where i live is about 29%, when the difference in speed is only around 10%. p.s. these benchmarks make the imacs a much better deal than the macbooks and mbpros. now if only the were as mobile. thanks, mirage3d Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/63501-different-mb-pro-graphics-performances/ Share on other sites
rathalos
i think for now, its hard to compare cos the driver is still fairly new for the 8600 gt and i heard apple has yet to fully utilise the graphics card to its full potential.. even nvdia is trying its best to code a proper driver for the 8600 gt due to the new architecture... so i think it will take a while.. in my opinion, moderate gaming and fairly heavy image editing works really well on the mbp with 128mb vram... personally, i've been cadding and working with large images (we're talking A0 size in full set of coulous at 150-300dpi) and playing some games (like wow and wc3 and q3) and its been up to my expectations... remember to set photoshop to enable 3d acceleration.. it might boost some speeds... Tried
i think gaming on OSX is not worth while, cause it just lags no mater how much ram difference you have on. However, if you game on windows, you;ll see a major difference, esp when it comes to DX10 games. Bioshock runs incredibally well on windows.
