tommerz
Hey everyone, Today I aquired an Imac G3 with a whopping 512mb ram (which is actually v. good, considering the system's age!!) It's got osx 10.1 installed, which runs really well, but I've got a few problems I'm having a few problems with disk permissions, and don't know how to fix them. Disk utility doesn't seem to work, and I would boot from dvd and run disk utility from there but I only have Tiger on dvd, and the Imac doesn't have a DVD drive Does anyone have any idea how to sort this permissions problem out? I'm also wondering what browser to use - it comes with internet explorer, which is very similar to it's Windows counterpart hence the desire for something a bit better I'm thinking either firefox 1.5 or seamonkey. Safari won't install cos the operating system is too old!! Possibly connected to the disk permissions problem, I'm having trouble mounting dmg files for firefox and seamonkey, altho safari's mounted fine (but wouldn't install). Does anyone know if this is down to my operating system version or more likely to be permissions based? The only error I get is something to the affect of "File invalid". I've downloaded from several sources and had the same error message. Also, does anyone have any tips for how to best use this awesome Mac. I'm considering installing xubuntu, but it'll spoil the vintage mac feel, especially if I have a fugly yaboot loader Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62488-osx-101-tips-and-what-browser/ Share on other sites
A Nonny Moose
Install 10.3 and then get Safari. You'll wet yourself at the speed boost.
