futurcorerock
I'm using Uphuck's 10.4.9 and I've been around the block in terms of working with the installation and have never had a problem using Office 2004 up until recently. A few days ago I had noticed that when I would go to launch an Office product from the dock, it would bounce once or twice, then stop. Then, I decided that I would try to re-install using both the autoinstall utility and the drag/drop folder. Both times the utility would launch and then instantly disappear from the dock. I nuked my partition and re-installed the OS, installed the Office 2004 with no problems and was using it for roughly a day. The last thing I had done to the computer was I began messing around with some ethernet kexts and suddenly I go to use Office tonight and again I experience the same problem. Anyone ever had this problem before? I searched around and found nothing Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62405-office-2004-mysteriously-quits-launching/ Share on other sites
hecker
You could try removing your "Microsoft User Data" folder (in Documents) and see if the problem persists. Make sure you save any files you need before erasing the directory. hecker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62405-office-2004-mysteriously-quits-launching/#findComment-442076 Share on other sites

I've deduced that since i've updated to iLife '08 that maybe the Quicktime update is causing this Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62405-office-2004-mysteriously-quits-launching/#findComment-446545 Share on other sites

futurcorerock
The Quicktime 7.2 update did the same to mine! Now using 7.1.6 and all works. How do I rollback to 7.1.6? Can I just delete the .app of QT or do I need to do some more stuff? lollett
It's not easy! http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306043 Another option (borrowed from another forum) Another workaround that has proved effective for some users (especially those who never had the pre-release Java system installed) is to force installation of QuickTime 7.1.6 using the tool Pacifist, then re-install the Mac OS X 10.4.10 combo updater via these steps. Download QuickTime 7.1.6 but do not attempt to install Download and launch Pacifist In Pacifist, click the "Open Package" button, then locate and open the QuickTime 7.1.6 .pkg file. Click the lock and enter your administrator password, then click the "Install" button.] Download and install the Mac OS X 10.4.10 combo updater. (Be warned, 10.4.10 updater is for geninue apple hardware) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/62405-office-2004-mysteriously-quits-launching/#findComment-457931 Share on other sites
dnjmarlboro
I think you are using the Uphuck 1.4 r2. Problems with Quicktime Update and Office were solved with Uphuck 1.4i r3. Marlboro So, what is the fix for those of us who installed with 1.4 r2? Is there a patch? I just installed Office 2004 today. The installer would not launch so I did the drag to a folder option to install, and even still, none of the apps will start. Just like the OP stated, they bounce on the dock when launched, but nothing ever happens (Word, Excel, Entourage). I'm currently at 10.4.10. Thanks. There were some Rosetta abnormalities with uphuck's 1.4i and rev. 2 that were taken care of in rev. 3. FWIW, by the time you figure out how to use some of the other methods (which may or may not work for your system) you can already have installed rev.3. To my knowledge, uphuck never issued a PPF for earlier versions, but fortunately, his downloads are only 1.3gb.
