pedro_sandchez
Well, I'm pretty pumped about the new osx86. I intend on being an early adopter of the first intel based powerbooks. Until that time (who knows, could be january, could be june) I want to build an osx86 box to play around with. I've been scavanging for parts around the house. Since my younger brother just built himself a pretty sweet gaming rig, our older pc is no longer used and was just sitting in the corner. From it I have taken: 80Gb IDE hard drive case pentium 4 2.4ghz processor (socket 478) 256 Mb stick of ddr333 ram 3 differnt cd drives. (a sony branded cd-r, sony branded dvd-rom, and ricoh brand dvd-r) now, I'm pretty sure the hard drive will work the processor is pretty much exactly what I wanted for the system, except that it limits me to my selection of motherboards due to it being socket 478. the ram is pretty much useless since a newer motherboard probably isnt going to support ddr333 ram, and I would want something faster/alot more then 256Mb. I assume that one of the three disc drives will work, if not, thats no big deal. my main pedicament is a motherboard I cant keep the one in it because it is only expandable to 512Mb of ram and I require at least a gig. what motherboard can I get that is socket 478, allows a gig of ram (preferably more so I can expant later), and works natively with osx86. I wold prefer something with onboard sound/video so as to avoid having to purchase those and try to find them to work well under osx86. thanks pedro Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6219-building-osx86-boxin-search-for-a-socket-478-motherboard/ Share on other sites
Technobob
I think you find this board is what you want, it has supported video GMA900. http://www.asrock.com/product/P4Dual-915GL.htm Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6219-building-osx86-boxin-search-for-a-socket-478-motherboard/#findComment-38897 Share on other sites
pedro_sandchez
Thank you so much, that fits the bill exactly. any ideas where I can get it? my normal supplier, newegg, doesn't seem to have it. on another note: In an attempt to have this box up and running as soon as possable, I did a little digging inside the pc I'm scavanging for parts, and found out the make/model of the motherboard in it. I know it isnt what I want in the end (just not powerful enough) but I was wondering if perhaps it was compatable with OSx86 just to run temperarily while I waint for my replacement components to get here. here is the board I have, http://www.baber.com/baber/411/asus_p4blx.htm thanks for any input, pedro Edited December 29, 2005 by pedro_sandchez Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6219-building-osx86-boxin-search-for-a-socket-478-motherboard/#findComment-38899 Share on other sites
