Today Roxio released their long awated Popcorn 3. So, what's new in the latest version of Popcorn? Actually quite a lot! Roxio has added the iPhone and AppleTV to its list of supported devices, along with the iPod, PSP, Xbox 360, BlackBerry and PlayStation 3. It's also added a brand new batch conversion feature, which is shared by another new Roxio program called Crunch. Popcorn 3 also noe has batch recording, so you can set-up a bunch of videos to convert, then walk away and go do more important things while Popcorn works in the background. Another great (and needed) feature is the ability to pause the process at any point and restart it later. I can't wait to use this feature. Another nice touch is the ability to actually preview the video quality with a 15-second peek, giving you a look at your compressed video before you finalize anything. TiVo fans will be happy to know the new Popcorn 3 now also has TivoToGo built in, previously only available in Toast 8, and Popcorn 3 is half the price :) Some other additional new features include;

  • NEW Batch Fit-to-DVD lets you queue multiple DVD-Video folders for DVD-9 (dual-layer) to DVD-5 (single-layer) conversion.

  • NEW Create compilation DVDs with 4 hours of your own video and television shows.
  • NEW VIDEO_TS Compilation merges multiple DVD-Video folders on a single DVD.

  • NEW Create custom DVD menus and even use your own picture as the background.

  • NEW Pause CPU-intensive video conversions to regain control of your Mac and resume whenever convenient.
  • NEW Media Browser provides quick access to Movies folder, TiVo and EyeTV recordings, and Spotlight search.
  • NEW Preview video quality for your selected encoding settings in just seconds.
  • NEW Quickly create personalized disc labels for printing or LightScribe laser etching!
  • NEW Turbocharge your H.264 encoding with Elgato's Turbo.264 video encoding hardware.
  • NEW Automatically add converted video files to iTunes for syncing with your Apple TV, iPhone, or iPod.

  • NEW Exclusive TiVoToGo support for the Mac lets you transfer shows from your TiVo DVR, watch on your Mac, burn to disc, or convert for playback on a portable device like the iPod.
  • NEW Choose television series to automatically transfer to your Mac after recording on your TiVo DVR.
  • NEW Automatically convert video for the portable device of your choice after transfer from your TiVo DVR.

  • NEW Convert video for Apple TV with Dolby Surround (Pro Logic II) support!
  • NEW Batch DVD-Video conversion allows you to queue multiple DVD-Video folders for conversion.
  • IMPROVED Choose from nearly any video source - QuickTime, DivX, AVI, VOB, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, TiVo recordings, EyeTV recordings, and more.

  • IMPROVED Convert DVDs, television recordings, and other video files for Apple TV, iPhone, and iPod.
  • IMPROVED Broad device support includes DVD and video conversion for playback on Xbox 360™, PlayStation® 3, PSP™, BlackBerry® devices, Palm® Treo™, and more.

  • IMPROVED Save disc space - convert video into compressed formats - DivX, MPEG4, H.264.

  • NEW Insert bookmarks to quickly jump through video on your iPhone and iPod, without the need for rewind or fast forward.

With all the great new features in this version I will be getting it as soon as the stores start stocking it and I'll post an in-depth review later. Popcorn 3 looks like a winner :D
