mawst
Hey guys, I just installed 10.4.8 on my Celeron D 2.66Ghz. Runs nice for most things. All I have is onboard video (m925alu PCCHIPS motherboard). And onboard sound. My soundcard shows up under the system preferences/Sound section as "AC97 Audio (PCM)". From what I gathered from some websites is this card is a VT1612A. This is the second machine I've installed on, I had the same onboard setup on my other board I used and I had sound, but even though this one says it's detected, it seems like i get high cpu usage when I try to play sounds and certain programs will lag/lock if I try playing sound (e.g. Reason). Firefox is VERY choppy when I play mp3s off a flash mp3 player. Again no sound. If anyone has any experience with this board or knows something specific I might need to do to get this working (it should be supported?) I would really appreciate it. Also, Does anyone know if Sound Blaster Live works, or Turtle Beach cards? I have both of these I could put in the machine. Thanks! phanguy
so just to be sure, this is the second machine you've installed on and EVERYTHING is exactly the same? hardware and installation are exactly the same? mawst
No, different boards. I'm pretty sure it's just different versions on the AC97 sound card. I discovered that I do in fact have sound... Through line out only, but it is VERY VERY faint. I have the volume on everything cranked and I can't seem to get a decent amount of volume out of the thing. So now it seems to be a matter more of how can I get the volume boosted up. -mawst Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/61799-help-with-sound-vt1612a-pcchips-m925alu-motherboard/#findComment-438609 Share on other sites
phanguy
doing a google search of your sound showed me a result with another member on this forum that has the same chip but a different board: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showuser=58569 you could ask him if he had to do anything special or maybe you can get whatever drivers he has from him. mawst
It's ok man. What I ended up doing is taking another look at one of the sound card compatability lists and realized that Creative Labs CT810 or whatever it is... I have one laying around. So I put that in the box. Works like a charm. Lucky no? Thanks though.
