Well, I want to upgrade the latest build of 10.4.3 (8F1111) and I got a Toshiba 16x dual layer DVD-RW. OS X sees it fine in system profiler, but when I try to boot, even by pressing "c" at startup, it won't boot. I am running on 1 ATA bus, the DVD drive's slave, the HD is master, I applied the Anti-TPM patch to the DVD, and the NoNX patch (only those two patches), so I still don't know why it won't boot. . .

On a real Mac the "c" key is interpreted by the Open Firmware before any OS is loaded, so this would obviously have no function on your MacTel. It's possible to write a BIOS with a similar functionality but it hasn't been done yet. Instead, PCs tend to do handle things like this through a menu system. Next time you start up you should see (for a split second) what key you need to press to enter the BIOS setup (usually F8). Then you'll need to find a menu that lets you alter the boot sequence. From there you need to put your DVD drive ahead of your hard drive, and you should be all set to go.

Well, I set the DVD drive to be the primary boot option in the bios, but it still didn't boot from it. When I put my x86 HD in a firewire enclosure to install onto it from my iBook, my iBook gets a Kernel Panic saying "no platform driver for PowerBook 6,5". I guess I'm stuck in 8F1099 land forever.
