Hi all,

I thought of starting a new post for the small community of Shuttle users.

A little about my Shuttle first:

-------------------------------------------------------

Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.4 GHz

1 GB RAM

Maxtor 6L300S0 279.48 GB SATA->works

WDC WD2000JB 186.3 GB -> works

Intel GMA900 On-board graphics -> works (QE/CI, resolution change work perfectly)

Realtek ALC880 On Board High-def sound -> *DOESNT WORK*

Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet controller ->works

Network Printer

HP Deskjet 1120c -> works

SD/XD Card Reader ->works

USB ports-> work

--------------------------------------------------------

Mac Osx86 10.4.8 from the Jas DVD works.

*You have to install Diabolik's GMA900 Fixer patch,*

The printer is connected to a WinXP IBM Thinkpad via LPT port

and I have a LAN setup between my desktop and the Thinkpad,

Networking works one way. I can access the ThinkPad from the MAc, but not the other way round.

Sound is a {censored}.

I tried following every single trick in the forum to no avail.

I had real difficulty understanding what the AppleHDA.kext trick was all about.

AppleHDA patcher froze the computer. (tried versions 1.08-1.16)

AzaliaAudio.pkg didnt work

Basically I got frustrated and gave up.

I am hoping someone will try to work with me to get the sound working.

-------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone of you Shuttle users has success with installing

any PCIe graphics cards, please lemme know. I will keep posting on

developments on my side.

I am thankful to everyone who made OSx86 possible.

Im a Graphic Design student and this means a lot to me.

Anyone with any info on ALC880.please look this way

;)

Hi again,

Just to update you guys with new developments,

I installed Kalyway 10.5.1 and it worked on my shuttle SB86i just FINE.

Sure there were a couple of kinks to iron out initially.

To begin with, my GMA 900 isn't enough for QE to function.

So I bought a cheap ass nvidia 7300LE and it worked like a charm (with nvinject)

Sound works with tarugas's betainstaller. (NO line in) (Attached)

But hey, sound, video works! JOOST WORKS! woo hoo!

I tried playing games and they work just fine too !!!!!!!

heres what i threw at my shuttle:

Diablo 2 with expansion set

Halo: combat evolved

Homeworld 2

GTA San Andreas

Unreal Tournament 2004

Once again, my humble shuttle has done me proud.

I would ask all shuttle owners to come forward and add to this thread.

Rishi.

rishi,

(just an FYI that when I started this email, I wasn't able to get leopard to work, but as I walked thru the install, it now works!)

I too have an sb86i and am installing kalyway 10.5.1. what kinks did you need to iron out during your install?

my attempts have been a nightmare. i'm using the ps2 keyboard/mouse and don't have any PCI cards. I can get it to install, but after the reboot, I get the '/com.apple.boot.plist" not found' message.

here are the steps i'm taking:

1. after booting dvd and pressing f8 i type '-v -x -y cpus=1' and press enter

2. eventually i get to the screen when i select english as primary language and click on the ==>. i'm now at the 'welcome' screen.

3. i go to disk utilities and do the following:

3a. select my disk

3b. click on 'erase' tab

3c. click on the 'erase' button and confirm the erase.

3d. then i click on the 'partition' tab

3e. i select 'partition 1' and label it '0SX'

3F. format is 'mac os extended (journaled)'

3g. i click on 'options', select 'guid partition table' and click on ok

3h. i click on 'apply' and click on the button to confirm 'partition'

3i. then i quit 'disk utility'

4. back at the welcome screen, i click on 'continue'

5. i click on 'agree'.

6. this takes me to the 'select destination' screen. i pick the only option, my OSX disk.

7. clicking 'continue' takes me to the 'install summary' screen

8. i click on 'customize'

9. the only option i select is 'BOOT_efi_guid' under 'Bootloaders EFI'. I don't select anything under 'Vanilla_Kernel_ACPIPlatform'

10. then i click on 'done' and return to the 'install summary' screen

11. i click on 'install'

12. i wait for the 'check install dvd' process to finish

13. 'installing' screen appears. this process usually takes about 15 minutes

14. i get the 'install succeeded' screen and the computer restarts

15. i'm back at the f8 screen and i don't press any keys.

16 i get the 'System Config File /com.apple.boot.plist" not found' message

Should I have removed the dvd after the reboot? I wasn't instructed to do so.

Just to test this out, i remove the dvd and reboot the computer again.

Oookayyy. Now OSX is loading!

Not sure what I'd done differently, but I'm glad I documented this stuff.

I'm playing around with Leopard. Set max resolution for my monitor (1680x1050), Internet connection and usb seem to work fine.

All I can say is wow.

Thanks rishi for inspiring me to continue with my efforts!

Next I'll look into going with a 'cheap ass nvidia' card like yours.

Heres my specs:

Kalyway 10.4.10

Shuttle SP35P2 Pro

Intel Core 2 Quad 3 GHz

4GB RAM

Marvel Yukon Ethernet *works*

WDC WD5000AAKS 500GBs x2

Asus Silent GeForce 8600GT *doesn't work*

Realtek ALC888 *doesn't work*

After partitioning my drives as GUID, and finish installing, I COULD NOT BOOT off either of my 500GB drives that had the OS X install on. Had to switch to MBR (grrrr) to get it to boot. Anyone have this problem?

Might have to downgrade my vid card to get it a "working" one.

And of course no one releases working nVid drivers for Tiger.. everyones switching to Leo

Speaking of which, I d/led Kalyway 10.5.1 and I can't even get to the install screen. It asks to boot off disc, I hit enter and it just goes back to asking me the same question. If anyone can help me with this, I would deeply appreciate it since it has the EFI GUID Booter on the install.

Otherwise, everything works great! Going to try to upgrade to 10.4.11 today..

Well thanks man!!

Im glad our small shuttle community is getting around installing OS x

I absolutely love MAC os and my shuttle too, I think it looks better than a Mac Pro.

I'd recommend the 7300Le card cos, I researched a lot on the Forum and concluded that it was the best alternative. It's also compatible with 10.5.2, just so you know.

Enjoy your new MAC buddy!

Hey Rishi,

While trying to get my sound to work, I checked for 'beta' and anything that pointed to '880' and found 'beta4some861 880Installer.zip' in Taruga's post:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=32859

Worked like a charm. Thanks again to your excellent post I was able to muddle thru.

Dan

Sorry Dan, I had a typo in my post earlier.

Should've been Taruga instead of Targus. My bad.

Though I'm glad you got your Shuttle Mac up and running.

I am getting ambitious now and want to upgrade to 10.5.2

Want to brainstorm ? Im on AIM: ghandude

Rishi,

Just downloaded the new Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD. This one has quite a few more options in the Customize screen (new sound, video, network cards, etc). I've started to play around with it, but had to put off trying to work out all the kinks in the install. I still need to get a new video card though. The GMA900 just doesn't have all the features and performance I'm interested in, but my lack of funds means I'll need to put this off. I guess I'll need to wait for a sale on a 7300 LE card.

Hi, ya'll. I have two shuttles. Both XPC sd37p2.

Kalyway Leo 10.5.2

Intel q6600 (2.75ghz)

8gb ECC ram

Nvidia 8600gt 512mb ram (with OpenGL - CI and QE)

320gb HD

750gb HD x2

Asus DVD Burner

Broadcom 5751 G-Ethernet

Realtek ALC 8882 audio

All usb, firewire, sound, and ethernet ports work

MacDotNub Tiger 10.4.10

Intel q6600 (2.75ghz)

8gb ECC ram

Ati Radeon XT 2600hd 8600gt 256mb ram (with OpenGL - CI and QE)

320gb HD

750gb HD x2

Asus DVD Burner

Broadcom 5751 G-Ethernet

Realtek ALC 8882 audio

All usb, firewire, sound, and ethernet ports also work.

Had to borrow the drivers for the video card, audio, and ethernet from the Kalyway Leo install.

Installed Tiger first, then used Pacifist to install the other drivers.

Its like close to $30, as cheap as it gets. Either ways, Im curious to find out how 10.5.2 installs on my system. I read somewhere that you couldn't get 7300LE to have QE support in 10.5.2. That worries me. Besides, I have all of my homework from school on my shuttle and I use just Leopard; no windows :) Anyways, Ill try it in summer, when I have no classes to take.

turnadota:

8 GB RAM ? what do you use them, as servers or something ?

Anyways, good to see shuttle owners contributing.

WE SHOULD PROBABLY START OUR OWN COMPATIBILITY THREAD, SINCE MOST SHUTTLE (BAREBONES OR OTHERWISE) HAVE SIMILAR MODEL-SPECIFIC FEATURES. THAT WAY WE CAN NARROW DOWN ANY ISSUES AND FIND A SOLUTION TO A PERFECT OS X SHUTTLE.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INITIATIVE.

HAD to reinstall everything. Thankfully data was backed up.

So no go on the 10.5.2 guys. NO GO.

Latest from me:

Got Kalyways 10.5.3 Combo Update, followed the instructions and voila, updated OS x to 10.5.3 from 10.5.1.

The update broke my QE/CI, (I have a nvidia 7300LE) but there is an absolutely simple fix to this:

1. Find and download NVKush:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry763624

2. Install it

3. Remove NVInject.kext from /Systems/Extensions

4. Reboot

5. Hit F8 at startup and type -f -v

6. This will fix you QE/CI after a 10.5.3 update.

Regards,

Rishi
