olofd
Hi! New here on Insanleymac. A complete n00b, but diden't find a thread for this mobo, so I started one now. Running the mobo with a q6600, two 500gb spinpoint disks, Geforce LE7300, and SATA DVD-rw. Everything works on this mobo now, inc. sound (Only output 2ch) First! To install JAS 10.4.8 you need to set your sata controller to ACHI in Bios. Ethernet needs RTL1xxx_1.02.pkg, just install and it will run (Attatched in the thread) For stereo output use peterg's kext AppleAzaliaAudio.kext Change premissions/owner (System&Wheel, Read&Write)) on the kext to match with other kext in "System/Library/Extensions" and place both kext there. Load kext by writing this in terminal: sudo -s chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions Reboot and you should have sound (If not, try again, setting the permissions/owner sometimes fails) Now everything on you board should work. One thing that concerns me is disk speed, I only get around 40 in xbench. Please post your resultats, If they are better then 40, please post Bios-settings, How you have Partition what disks you are using etc. This seems to be a great board and p35 is a safe investment for future installations. But can slow diskspeeds be fixed? If you want me to add anything to this first post, just let me know. //MVH Olof, Sweden

Steve http://www.infinitemac.com/archive/index.php/t-2440.html: epborden 03-27-2009, 10:09 AM After many headaches and lots of frustration I would like to present drivers and a tutorial for getting the 8800GTX working under 10.5.6 (and possibly lesser versions). Included is a short guide and the most current drivers available at this time. All of the drivers should work if you have the right card; the newest drivers have the best features. You WILL NOT use EFI (gfx) strings for this tutorial. This tutorial uses the NVdarwin injector because some 8800GTX cards are not recognized even with the right EFI strings. So keep your hands off EFI Studio! IMPORTANT!!! This tutorial, injector, and drivers are for the 8800GTX ONLY. You can edit the files Info.plist and add your own card string if you want to try a different card. ALL drivers and injector are coded to the 8800GTX ONLY and also has support for dual DVI-I output to two displays. I am not responsible for breaking your install! Tested Platform: iPC 10.5.6 FINAL RELEASE Graphics Card: NVIDIA 8800GTX 768MB Device ID: 0191 Vendor ID: 10de Card String: 0x019110de Injector: NVdarwin 1.2.5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- InstructionsYou will need OSX86 Tools for the install, click here to download (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/OSX86Tools.1.5.0.app.zip'>http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/OSX86Tools.1.5.0.app.zip). Step 1: Use a FRESH install for best results. With a current install it still might work, but mods might mess up the process, and previous driver installations might make this not work. Load OS X 10.5.6. Step 2: We need to remove the cache files and current drivers on the system so we can start clean. Open Terminal and follow these commands: sudo su (enter password when asked) cd /Volumes ls (choose drive name you installed OS X on) cd drivename/System/Library rm -rf Extensions.mkext rm -rf Extensions.kextcache cd Extensions rm -rf GeF*.* rm -rf NV*.* Next, open finder and navigate to System/Library/Extensions and delete the "Caches" folder by dragging it to the trash, enter your password when prompted, and empty the trash. Step 3: Now that we've gotten rid of everything, download one of the driver packages and the NVdarwin package and unzip them into your place of choice. Install OSX86 Tools if you haven't already by dragging and dropping the OSX86Tools.app file into your Applications or Utilities folder. Step 4: Run the program, select if you want it to check for updates or not. There are a lot of options available, but the only one we care about right now is the Install Kexts button. Click this button, then click OK, a browser window will pop up and allow you to select the files you just unzipped, select all of them including NVdarwin and then click Choose. A new window will pop up, confirm which drive name your OS X installation is on, then click OK. You will be prompted to enter your password, enter it now and installation should complete. It will ask you to restart, restart your computer now. At the 5-second boot prompt hit Enter and boot with the -v flag in verbose mode to check your handy work. Step 5: While OS X is loading in verbose mode, if NVDANV50Hal loads and registers, and NVdarwin spews out a bunch of information about your displays... you've just created a working 8800GTX in 10.5.6. When OS X loads, and your finder bar appears translucent then you have QE (Quartz Extreme) and you should have rotation and CI (Core Image) Hardware Acceleration also. You can double check this by going to Utilities and running System Profiler. Click Graphics/Displays in the list and check the information. Step 6: Last step, we want to enable Quartz GL. Open up OSX86 Tools again, but this time choose the Enable/Disable Quartz GL button, and when prompted enter your password, and then enter your pass again, and restart your computer. Now you have a fully loaded beast in your machine. ----------------------------------------------------------------------If you do not have QE/CI/QGL after this tutorial then retrace your steps and make sure you did everything correctly. I can personally vouch for this method as it is the ONLY Method I could use to get full operational support using the latest drivers on 10.5.6. Alternatively, you can still try using EFI (gfx) strings or another method of your choice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Downloads: 8800GTX NVdarwin Injector 1.2.5 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX-NVdarwin.kext.zip) 8800GTX NVdriver ver. 1.5.36.25 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX-NVdriver-1.5.36.25.zip) Latest! 8800GTX NVdriver ver. 1.5.30.17 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX-NVdriver-1.5.30.17.zip) 8800GTX NVdriver ver. 1.5.30.8 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX-NVdriver-1.5.30.8.zip) 8800GTX NVdriver ver. 1.5.26.7 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX-NVdriver-1.5.26.7.zip) Old 8800GTX NVdriver ver. 1.5.24.9 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX-NVdriver-1.5.24.9.zip) Old OSX86 Tools Build 150 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/OSX86Tools.1.5.0.app.zip) OpenGL Extensions Viewer 3.1.2 (http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/OpenGLViewer.3.1.2.app.zip) (for testing OpenGL Extensions, and running OpenGL tests) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare using latest drivers: http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX.COD4SS1.jpg http://evanborden.com/8800GTX/8800GTX.COD4SS2.jpg
