yes. cinebench is really good, and yes your opengl is a bit poor because of your low end card. a 7600 or 7900 would be a nice upgrade if you need faster opengl for gaming. for anything else your 7300 is more than good.

here are my numbers for reference:

1x cpu: 3150

2x cpu: 5662

opengl: 5671

i've never bothered trying to get sleep working on my p5w-dh since i dont need it, and on top of that I'm running leo these days, so i doubt it works there yet.

i probably wouldnt get a p5w-dh unless you got a deal (original price that i paid was a bit high, but it is quality), since it is aging a bit.. if any of the newer chipsets are supported in osx i would probably go with those (faster fsb etc).

My setup:

Intel btx

Intel Pentium D@3400Mhz (800Mhz fsb)

2 GB Ram@512Mhz, dual channel

Galaxy 7600GS with ddr3 (Samsung, 1.4ns), @factory default speed (i don't know). This board is not the Zalmann one, this is a simple vga+dvi version. How can i test the gpu speed, and get other infos about the gfx card? (if i'm NOT a windows fan...)

Cinebench results:

Number of CPUs : 2

Operating System : OS X 32 BIT 10.4.10

Graphics Card : NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS OpenGL Engine

Rendering (Single CPU): 1174 CB-CPU

Rendering (Multiple CPU): 1256 CB-CPU

Multiprocessor Speedup: 1.07

Shading (OpenGL Standard) : 3718 CB-GFX

Multiprocessor speedup is really small here. It take long time, so i started a Safari and a Transmission... but it's not so good anyway. Safari+Transmission=3-4%/cpu...

CPU doesn't speed up OpenGL score. I have a 7300GT and get the same OpenGL score as aliab even with higher processor score. Processor is a mildly overclocked (3.1ghz) e6700. Cinebench is really good at isolating tests.

Here are my results...no overclocking...everything pretty standard. Would like to boost my OpenGL a bit. It was neat hearing my CPU fan kick in when all 4 cores were being accessed at 100%...at least according to MenuMeter

very good overclocking and benchs (considering the price of this cpu) could you tell us more about ?

Do you mean me?

I didn't do anything special, just bought the CPU and the Mainboard and tried the Bios Settings. Above 350 it's getting unstable, maybe I could get one or two more MHz out of it but I'm quite satisfied with this speed!

It's running with a Blue Orb II Fan (which only has a 3 Pin Connector so it's connected to the temperature controlled Power Supply and runs at very low speed).

So as you see, nothing special. But if you have any questions, feel free!

For anyone who has 10.4.10 showing in your results, did that show up automatically or did you edit that? If it shows automatically, what update installer did you use and what original OSX installation did you use. I have 10.4.10 on my system, but Cinebench keeps reporting as 10.4.9.

thats because you only have 1 cpu/core. your system likely has HyperThreading and that isnt 2 cores, but its nice that you do get "some" improvement i guess.

sg: Thanks for reply.

My "about this mac" dialog says: total number of cores: 2. "CeePeeYou" has two % numbers.

It's a dual core (945) Pentium D, running at 3400. It has only 1 core, really?

Other question: How can i tune my vga within osx? I just like a little overclock or something... but without windows. Is it possible?

@sg: i ran the tests again. I see that even during the single core test the cinebench used both cores. (CeePeeYou reported a continously changing cpu usage. 1st core: cca 0-70% 2nd core: cca 30-100%). That's why the small difference. During the multiple cpu test both cores were on 100%. I wondered that huge difference between a core2duo and my pentium D...

what kernel do you have? its likely not detecting your FSB properly and the timings are off making the entire OS appear to be twice as fast, when it really isnt. it will also mess up music and video playing probably.

i suggest getting a kernel (latest semthex) for 10.4.9 which has FSB detection.

thanks, whit a new kernel about this mac recognise 1,7 ghz but one core only ( the same first)

i test a ripping cd with itunes:

old kernel (2.6 ghz) a song at 22 x speed

new kernel (1,7 ghz) a song 9 x speed

the speed of the system appear real and not only theorical

i test temperature with temperature monitor and are the same 70°c ( too much?)
