hiroo
I have a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 on order and am looking for a good motherboard for it. I currently have ASUS P5LD-VM R2.0 with E6600 running great, but I think that MB does not support Q6600. (Actually if anybody knows if this MB would work with Q6600, that would be the best cuz then I wouldn't have to buy a new MB) Any thoughts on a motherboard that: - works with Q6600 - fully functional SATA/USB/LAN/Sound on board - hopefully supports more than 4GB of RAM - ideally micro ATX so I don't have to get a new case Suggestions or experiences? BJMoose
The Intel Bad Axe 2 has been as dependable and stable as my Mac Pro...even more flexible since it has 8 working SATA connectors. I don't have firewire 800 or airport hooked to this system because I don't need it. Sound out works fine. Mic needs to have a usb box. Everything else you mentioned works fine. Currently, I'm using uphuck's v1.4iR3. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60425-best-mb-for-q6600/#findComment-429648 Share on other sites
hiroo
HI hiroo, I used Pentium D 935 ON P5LD2 VM R2.0. I'm wondering exchange E6600, Let me know,How about your overclocking situetion. I did a bit of overclock, i think from 2.4 to 2.92 or something using the easy overclocking settins in the bios and is totally stable. When I pushed it further I had issues. However, since I'm not an experienced overclocker, I didn't really explore what would could be done with changing voltage settings, etc. And my RAM was pretty weak PC2-5300 stuff too, so that may be a factor. So I guess I'm not the best person to ask for OC info. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60425-best-mb-for-q6600/#findComment-429658 Share on other sites
moarfish
I think Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 or those new P35 can fit the need for Q6600 and have nice overclocking as well. Bearcat
I'm using an Intel D975XBX2 with a Q6600. Currently overclocked to 3.24 ghz, seems stable enough so far, only a week though. I have Jas 10.4.7 on it, but planning on getting it to 10.4.10 good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/60425-best-mb-for-q6600/#findComment-429721 Share on other sites
hiroo
Thanks for the responses. I would like the Intel D975XBX2 but its pretty pricey. Plus, it and the Gigabyte boards are full ATX, right? Are there any microATX options known to work well? Also, it seems the P35 boards are kinda sticky in terms of drivers on OSx86 right now...
