When I try to install the uphuck dvd I get an error message "SAM Multimedia(cant remember the rest)" then it says still waiting for root device.

I have tried

  • updating BIOS
  • removing sata drive
  • switching ide drive
  • removing slave ide HDD
  • making another burn of image
  • running with -x, -y and -s

I have an ASUS A8N32- Deluxe, AMD 3800+

Any ideas?

Thanks

Well, first you should know for sure that your hardware setup is perfectly setup like OSX Hard Drive on IDE Master (in bios set it to ACPI), DVD drive on IDE Slave (both hooked on the same cable). This solved my problem. But you could also try and burn your DVD onto another DVD brand. DVD-RW in some cases also cause problems. And when you burn it burn it slow. Hope this will fix your problem.

Specifically which Uphuck DVD did you use (there are several versions)? If it ended in an "i", then that is likely your problem, as those are only designed for Intel chipset machines, not AMD. You need the version ending in "a".

Oops, looked over that one....Yup that should be the problem ;)

He could also try 1.3 DVD...

I fixed the SAM errors by putting my hdd and dvd on the same IDE cable. However I have installed OSX using a linux formatted HDD with the SSE3 install and no drivers.

When I try to boot up the machine it come up with "com.apple.Boot.plist missing"

Any ideas?

Where and how would I change this?

Cheers

Put in osx86 install dvd.

restart

boot into single user mode by typing -s then press enter.

next type this:

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 (note: the 0 after rdisk is the # of you HD if your OSX hd is 2 then it shold be rdisk1 )

flag1 ( use 1 for partition 1 and 2 for partition 2 )

active

quit

reboot

Good luck hope this helps! :)
