A lot of focus since the release of WWDC '07 build of Leopard (9A466) has been on the desktop. But when it comes to putting Leopard on your system, there has not been much detail as to the changes in the installation experience. For instance:

1. What happens when you insert the Leopard DVD in Tiger and launch the installer? Does it still require that you restart the system to begin the actual setup or is it a similar approach to Windows?

2. Are there any graphical changes to the installers UI since the April build? Is it using brushed metal title bars on the dialogs for instance?

3. Is the semi-translucent menu bar also a part of the initial phase of setup?

4. How long does it take to install? Last year, I read on Think Secret install times of 14 mins

5. Changes in Disk Utility?

6. Could someone take some pictures of the installer? It looks different based on a picture (glimpse) I saw of it being installed.

Thank you

Haven't tried this.

9A466 is the only one I have used, but yes it has brushed metal and the new semi-transparent finder bar.

3. Is the semi-translucent menu bar also a part of the initial phase of setup?

Yes

4. How long does it take to install? Last year, I read on Think Secret install times of 14 mins

It took me about 45 minutes to install it on my iMac from a DVD+R DL

5. Changes in Disk Utility?

No apparent changes.

Wasn't able to take pictures but yes, it is definitely different than the Tiger install. The windows are bigger and more user friendly and it describes quite clearly what is going on at each step in the process.

actually it is quite ugly... it just says "Installing" with a progress bar and a how long remaining, oh and btw off of a HD it look 18 min to clean install. the pretty blue backround has been replaced with an ugly grey one and grey+translucent menu bar rly looks bad, so some improvement is needed...oh and if u want me too, i can always clean install and take pics, i dont have anything that i need on the partition... Changes in Disk Utility - yes, you can now non-destructively resize existing partitions, BootCamp stylee. ie you could shrink down an existing partition (provided it has enough free space) and create a new partition in the newly-freed-up space, without losing data.

my archive+install of 9A466 took ~20 min.

Disk utility can now resize partitions nondestructively.

The installer showed various apple icons highlighting leopard during the install process the first time I installed 466, but not the second. it seems temperamental. I'm sure it will work in the final release.
