Last night I was burning a few CDs on my MacBook Pro when my dad picked up my laptop off the counter and put it down on the couch. He said after he set it down, it made a few funny noises and kicked the CD it was currently burning out. I checked the CD and it hadn't yet started burning although the CDs I burned before it were good burns.

Now my CD-drive won't take any form of disc. When I put a disc in, it makes the noise like it's attempting to engage the disc twice, then kicks the CD out. I've tried burned discs, DVDs and regular CDs.

I know this is something that I should probably take to my local genius bar, but that's about a 2 hour drive from here so I'd like to try and resolve it before I have to resort to that.

Any help on how to resolve this is much appreciated.

Slot-loading drives are tempremental beasts at times. I had to disassemble the original drives from my 12" and 15" AlBooks a couple of times to 're-align' the machanisms so they'd suck disks in again - usually it was just a lever that had leapt out of the guiding track or similar. That said, I've not had that problem with the newer drives (mostly UJ-845s and 846s) I installed in those machines and which are in other machines around here...
