If we could all get a dime for every lawsuit Apple has gotten in just this year alone...well...we wouldn't be rich, but you get the point neverthless. The latest in the series, is related to the iPhone keyboard, in which SP Technologies is accusing Apple " to pay royalties for the 'willful and deliberate' infringement of a patent Apple used illegally for the iPhone's keyboard".

As if that wasn't funny enough; because the claim in the lawsuit was already present in the Newton, a decade before this lawsuit, so this is nothing more than an attempt at gold-digging in Apple's deep pockets:

SP's complaint also asks for a permanent injunction against further use of the intellectual property at issue.

Furthermore:

Apple is a big target for patent suits given the technical complexity of its products and its deep financial reserves. Plaintiffs in cases like this often hope that the threat of an injunction and treble damages will compel a defendant to settle without a trial.

well it looks like apple has a reason to be happy the newton was a failure in sales.

but the patent holder has a right to earn monet from their patents... that is the point of them. If this were apple sueing some other company you guys would be all over the other guy saying they stole apple's idea. So just think about the whole situation. As far as I am concencerned this lawsuit is more honest than most patent lawsuits. the iPhone just came out. Leave it to other companies (CREATIVE) to wait for them to sell 100million ipods and then sue them for patent infringement.
