i recently updated my osx86 mac to 10.4.3 build 8f1111a using some of JaS's patches for sse3 processors with no NX. everything seems to work well. i had garageband2 installed when it was a 10.4.1 and it worked fine and the sound was fine. now the sound is kind of distorted when i play a preview loop in garageband. any suggestions on how to fix this.

ok, im back again. I am having the exact same problem with Garageband 3 from iLife 2006! Everytime I open it, the sound quits working during the initialisation process. In order to restore the sound, I have to copy a good version of the /Library folder which is saved on my desktop back to /Library again, overwriting it. This, however only restores the sound if it is done in singlw-user mode. A simple reboot is not the answer, the sound still doesn't work until I go into single user mode and perform the copy operation described above.

Hi,

I have the same exact problem. Sound worked fine since I started for the first time GarageBand from iLife 06. Now I can't hear anything. Unluckily I do not have any backup of my Library directory. so do you think I have to reinstall again the whole OS?

Ciao

Tony

Yep, I did a full reinstall. Then I made a copy of my Library and System folders. Then I figured out that it was just the Library folder that mattered. So ya, if you want sound you might have to. I still can't figure out what is in the Library folder that changes. I tried to set the real one in the root directory read only after fixiing, but it didn't work.

I know that its Garageband, because I've played a song in iTunes while it opens and about 3 seconds into initialisation it cuts out. However iTunes and other software seem not to notice.

It's really weird, and even worse that almost no one else is having the same problem. Im running 8F1111 with all (I think) of Maxxus' patches. I have an sse3 cpu with no xd bit so I needed to patch the iso, but couldn't modify myself under windows so I had to use a ppf patch. I got one with vmwaresound, ac97, and I think vmware nic along with the xd and sse2 patches. I still have the patch file and the original dmg image. Here's the patch info:

Filelength : 21839984 Bytes

Enc. Method : 2 (PPF3.0)

Undo Data : Nope

Blockcheck : Enabled

Imagetype : Normal Image

Description :

PPF Patchdata : 21838900 Bytes

File_ID.diz : Nope

I'll try to see if I can find who I got it from (it was a link on this site, if that helps)

i might just reinstall and use Jas's patcher v4.2b to make my dtk image of 8F1111 into a fully patched 8F1111A. that may solve the problems.

I've noticed that when I start up OSX that the sound is on and is perfect, but as soon as I start Garage Band from iLife 06', I have no sound. If you look in Utilities under Audio MIDI Setup and go to Properties For:(your Audio Output) Garage Band will change the format to 44100.0Hz and 6ch-16bit. When I turned it back to 2ch-16bit my audio was restored, but for some reason the volume in the menu bar doesn't work. I hope this was helpful for some people
