RahamanPatrick
Hello all, I've been using OSx86 for a while and just purchased a great new graphics card, the NVIDIA 8600 GTS, since this does not work with a native OS X install I've been thinking about VMware and I have a couple questions. 1. Does my hardware need to natively support OS X in order to be able to run it in VMware? 2. Any news on native GeForce 8xxx series support? 3. Would I be able to convert videos and do some DVD ripping under VMware? Thanks in advance, Patrick O. naddy69
VMWare presents a very generic "PC" to the guest OS that you install. Your hardware doesn't need to be natively supported to work. I've installed 10.4.6 in WMWare and it's horribly slow. Much slower than Linux or even Solaris in VMWare. I don't know why but it's a fact. It's barely useable, whereas Linux and Solaris run fine. I only installed it just to see if it would work. I already have 10.4.6 and 10.4.9 running natively on several machines here. If you want to convert videos and do DVD ripping then VMWare is not the solution, regardless of the OS you install in it but particularly OS X86! Do these things natively, not in a VM. kamikaze
10.4.6 runs slow on vmware b/c most of the OS runs using Rosetta, the virtual machine for PPC. Install 10.4.8 minimum and you should start to see decent performances. Of course... VMware is nothing compared to a native install...
