UserTheBest
I tried to install OSx86 on VMware 5.5.1 many time with different hardware configurations (1 CPU; 328 MB RAM; SCSI array of 2 HDDs 45 Gb each; 1 virtual DVD drive (linked to real DVD SONY DVD-RW DWG120A); no network adapter) (1 CPU; 328 MB RAM; SCSI array of 2 HDDs 45 Gb each; 1 virtual DVD drive (linked to Alcohol 120% virtual DVD drive); no network adapter) (1 CPU; 328 MB RAM; SCSI array of 2 HDDs 45 Gb each; 1 virtual DVD drive (linked to Nero ImageDrive virtual DVD drive); no network adapter) (1 CPU; 328 MB RAM; 1 IDE HDD 16 Gb; 1 virtual DVD drive (linked to real DVD SONY DVD-RW DWG120A); no network adapter) (1 CPU; 328 MB RAM; 1 IDE HDD 16 Gb; 1 virtual DVD drive (linked to Alcohol 120% virtual DVD drive); no network adapter) (1 CPU; 328 MB RAM; 1 IDE HDD 16 Gb; 1 virtual DVD drive (linked to Nero ImageDrive virtual DVD drive); no network adapter) but each time I got the same error: Load of /sbin/launchd, errno 88, trying /sbin/mach_init Load of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 88 My hardware: CPU: PIV 1,6 GHz Memory: 768 MB DDR Motherboard: Gigabyte P4 Titan GA-8PE800 (Intel 845PE chip set) HDDs: 40 + 160 Gb (Maxtor 4D040H2 & Seagate ST3160812A) CD/DVD: Sony DVD-RW DWG120A Sony CD-RW CRX175E Video Card: nVIDIA GeForce 7300GT by Chaintech (AGP 8x) Sound Cards: onboard AC97 Crystal SoundFusion CS4281 I attached screenshot of one of cases... Sylph
you have to burn the dvd or mount it in daemon tools. VMWare's mounting system can't handle the dvd's filesystem well. UserTheBest
I tried to install OSx86 from DVD-R (TDK) with hardware config-s in which I have Sony DVD-RW. About Daemon Tools: I will try it... and I'll reply when I finish. --sorry for bad English-- Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58584-osx86-1034-vmware-551-errno-88/#findComment-418187 Share on other sites
UserTheBest
Just tried Daemon Tools. The same Error again... :-((( Can anyone say what errno 88 exactly means?? Sylph
I read somewhere in this forum that this means that parts can't be found on the dvd. I had this error in vmware because I mounted it in vmware and solved it by mounting it in daemon tools. Maybe someone has the same dvd as you and can make a sfv or md5 so you can check if your dvd isn't corrupted. Can anyone say what this error exactly means? Try setting the virtual CD-ROM drive to autodetect mode. To do this, go to VM menu >> Settings in VMware. Click on the CD-ROM device in the left pane. On the right side of the screen, there will be some configuration options. Make sure that the 'Connect at Power On' checkbox is selected. Now, click the 'Use physical drive' radio button. Choose 'Auto-detect' from the drop-down menu. Click OK and try booting the VM. i_am...me
10.3.4?? Wasnt that PPC only, Pre Intel? Try Pear PC Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58584-osx86-1034-vmware-551-errno-88/#findComment-502676 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
errno88 is an error that comes up when the HFS+ image is not read properly. You get the most success by burning the ISO to DVD-R. And thats right, 10.3.4 is a PowerPC version. Are you sure it isn't 10.4.3? And what ISO are you using? Thats another possible problem. i_am...me
Vmware wasnt meant to emulate a PowerPC, If you want to use 10.3.4 then use PearPC that will work. Since it emulates a G4 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58584-osx86-1034-vmware-551-errno-88/#findComment-502738 Share on other sites
~pcwiz
I highly doubt that the image UserTheBest is using is 10.3.4 because as you see in the screenshot, the DVD did partly boot. If it was a PowerPC image it would do nothing at all. Most likely the 10.4.3 image is being used. I strongly recommend a more modern image like 10.4.8 JaS. UserTheBest
Thanks to all who replied to my question! I think that I really should get more "modern image"...
