Is it possible?! : YES IT IS

Just use One of the AMD-specific Kernels on any given Hackentosh Install DVD

If you likely to hit problems it'll be 99% Mobo-Chipset based Problems, since I've no idea which Mobo you own

I can't really give you a Thumbs up or down on it.

**Edit** The CPU itself unlike the el-cheapo Celerons "D's" are (or should be all 64Bit and SSE3 enabled), the latter being important for Programs which need Rosetta to run. (i.e. Programs which were originally written for the IBM PPC CPU),....

For myself I had really good success w/the Semeron 2800 on a MSI K8N Neo2 (S754 nForce3 250Gb Chipset).

I say good while, while I was able to get MacOS up and running somewhat, I've had nothing but problems w/it.

First off, SATA dosen't work out of the Box, so although I gather that it this could be tweaked, I never bothered tryin'.

The BIGGEST deal breaker, was in getting my fekken' AGP (ATI 1600Pro), to run (installs to a Black-Screen.

This got so bad that I eventually migrated to a PCIe Mobo. ASRock (S754 nForce 6100-450), and, I got an instant Kernel Panic just after inserting the DVD. T_T

If your looking to by-pass Micr$aft's POS DRD(amaged)'d Fister OS, you'd do better to chuck the AMD System in the Bin,

and upgrade to an affordable Core2Duo System.

This is what I myself have done and having done so I've had no further problems... :P

This is my hardware, I used JAS OS 10.4.8 AMD INTEL SSE2 SSE3 given Hackentosh Install DVD

but unfortunately I could not be successful. Mouse frozen. I was compelled to close down the computer from the power button. Thanks

Ok I see that you are trying the JAS 10.4.8 version, alas different Distros' have somewhat different results.

At the time I had better results from the JAS 10.4.7 Distro then say (IIRC) Maximus ~it's been a while~.

In any case the moral of the story is to try a different (or at least an updated), copy and reburn that at the slowest speeds possible by your Burner.

**EDIT** Speaking of other Distros' I'd gather that most AMD uses here have had more luck w/the Tubgirl version of OSX, as that version was tailored specifically for AMD Users, (i.e. t probably wouldn't be of much use to me and my Intel System),.

The last version I tried was from Uphuk (v10.4.9), and if I were still on my old AMD System (somewhat similar to yours' save I had a nForce3 250 Chipset, would have gone like this: (Note I'm using your Specs for the below).

OSX:

10.4.9 AMD

Kernel:

AMD SS3

Patches:

AppleACPIPlatform.kext 10.4.8

Drivers:

Video - ATI or nVidia (you did not state it)

You will need to have an idea on how to also install the AGP Gart Driver(s) under this section too.

Allthough I would have thought of trying every possible combination of Gart Drivers, I was never able to get my ATI Radion x1600Pro to work.

Like I said this caused me to move onto a new Mobo w/PCIe Slots.

~A bit further down below that~

Via SATA/ATA You'll need this "Driver" to work w/your HDD's (DUH)

USB "Driver" ~Again I think this is for VIA Chipset usesrs, I never needed it for the nForce Chipset, nor do I need it for the i945G that I'm useing now.

This might fix your "Stuck Mouse" problem.

And finally any on-board Ethernet / Sound Drivers (i.e. Realtek / Azalia) Drivers, Best bet is to check the Manual('s) that came with your Mainboard / PC at the time of sale, in case you are unsure.

The rest of the install-er options after this point are all optional:

Software (Or whatever Uphuk called it), contains Office Apps, iTunes and iPhoto type Programs.

Languages, allows you to install other UI Language-Paks under OSX.

Now my advice would be to install all the above as I described save the Graphic Stuff (at first), that should at least get you a (and I use the term loosely), a working system: Note that you'll be limited to 1024x768@60Hz w/no QE/CI enabled.

If you ever manage to work out how to get the AGP Gart Working (and I HIGHLY suspect you MUST DO THAT FIRST!), then you might get your AGP working.

Alas I was unable to find a working soulution (read: I never tried the above AGP Gart first Video Drivers' latter), and basically just decided to chuck the whole AMD System into the Dustbin!

As I hope to have a basic enough system in place when the first Hackentosh 10.5.x (Leopards) eventually start hitting the Web latter this Year.

My System BTW is fairly basic:

Mainboard: ASRock Conroe 945G-DVI

CPU: Intel Core2Duo 6420 Conroe Core 2x 2.14Ghz @ 2x 2.50Ghz (the above MB sucks @ OC'ing) The Chip should be able to hit speeds up to 3Ghz!!

2x 1Gib of 667Mhz DDR2 RAM

Graphics by, nVidia 7900GS 256MB PCIe, no more mucking 'bout with AGP Garts YEAH!! :D

On-Board Sound / Ethernet by Realtek

1x Samsung 80Gib IDE HDD Destend for the XBOX1 as a Second Media Drive.

1x Samsung 80Gib SATA HDD w/60/40% Partitions of OSX and FAT32 (for cross OS ~XP Pro/OSX iTunes usage).

1x LG Multi-DVD Buner IDE to be kicked out for a SATA version

and 1x Samsung DVD-ROM Drive that's been modified to read/rip XBOX360DVD's (currently NOT IN USE), as the Gods of Silicon Vally have renderd IDE DEAD! T_T (i.e. the One HDD and DVD Burner are using the only IDE Port avalible) T_T.

And yes I'm still old fashioned enough to actually still have a 3.5" Floppy Drive Intel can kill off an entire IDE Channel but still leave this Dodo alone!! WHY?!?!

  • 2 weeks later...

I tried to install mac os x86 on my AMD sempron 2800+, Asus main board twenty times with very different installers, but I did not success. Finally I installed it with Uphuck 1.4a successfully.

I thank uphuck, eskurza and osx86 turk team for the beautiful releases.

and now my system is very stabile. GForce GFX5200 works. Lan driver works. But Sound driver which on board AD 1888 not works. It is my unique problem.
