Okay, so i reformatted my ipod to hfs+ to install osx86 on it so i could boot into osx86 from the ipod through the usb connection, (pressing F12 during startup takes me to the boot menu then selecting boot from usb flash device, wallah, boots mac os x) it's nice because i can use it at home then take it to school and boot their computers from the ipod, it's like carrying my whole computer in my pocket!

anyways, when i reformatted the ipod it obviously deleted the firmware and all that and i know how to restore it but here's the problem. ive made 2 partitions on the ipod, one to be recognized by windows and one for mac os (hfs+), the one for windows was for the firmware and music and all that so that the ipod could still work like an mp3 player, the second partition is for the installation of mac os x. but for itunes to recognize the ipod the firmware has to be installed on the first partiton, the pc one. but for the apple installer to install mac osx the first partion must be apple formatted. i want to be able to still use my ipod as an ipod and use it to boot osx when it's plugged in.

i know that it actualy dosn't matter what partition osx is installed on because u can pick the partition you want to boot from in the boot menu. but osx seems to think it HAS to be on the first partition. so is there a way to trick the installer into installing onto the 2nd partition?

i'm gonna go mess with it some more...

cant you change the active partition with fdisk or something?

also i wouldent mess too much with your ipod, i know because ive been doing it alot myself. ive had linux, i have my firmware modified right now and its working well. but if something goes wrong for you though, and your ipod still shows up on the computer so they can check what youve done, dont forget to keep magnets next to your ipod for a little while before you send it off (oh it does the trick well ;))
