Findibulator
A lot of people are still searching for the best hardware to build their osx86 boxes. (I've even been researching and asking opinions myself on this forum.) The wiki is a good starting point, but it's slightly dated and not 100% accurate. Example - there is a column in the matrix : "Fully working without patching". You'll find someone marked YES, but in the notes field they then explain the tweaks etc. they had to make to get it all working. So it's somewhat misleading. That's pretty much expected with any user generated content, so you take what you get. I know a lot of us have our configs in our sigs, but it still requires some digging to find what you're lookng for sometimes. (Oddly enough, if found my usercontent.css file I used for ad and flash blocking causes a lot of sigs not to show up in the forum (but that's my problem..)) So I propose a "post your setup" to give people an easy to find starting reference as to what people are actively successfully using. Or - I could just shut up and we can keep referring people to wiki and the search function,... My current setup : HP dc5100 SFF 2(x) Seagate 250GB SATA LG DVD R/W DL Lightscribe (IDE) 2 GB PC3200 RAM D-Link BBT120 Bluetooth Rocketfish USB mic x-box 360 USB webcam Apple BT KB and Mightymouse Integrated graphics, sound, USB, SATA, IDE worked natively. Minr config editing for integrated NIC. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58262-post-your-current-working-setup/ Share on other sites

boinkytwo
Here is my poor old rig. I used it as my photo editing machine using photoshop cs3 and also for dvd authoring and cd burning using toast 8. Motherboard - Asrock P4145GV, w/ built-in graphics, LAN only CPU - Intel Celeron 2.4 ghz, SSE2 capable only Memory - 512 MB DDR only Hard Drive - 40 GB, ATA only Graphics - Geforce FX5200 128mb 64bit only, with QI/CI Supported OS - Jas OSX86 4.9/semthex 8.9.1 + WinXP Pro + Uphuck 4.9 v1.3 With my config, I successfully installed osx using uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3 intall dvd. I just installed the necessary patches and kernels from the install dvd. Those includes: universal kernel-3 remove AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement.kext AppleACPIPlatform from 10.4.8 loginwindow 10.4.4 ...and no more. These are based from trial and error to get the right kernels and patches for my specs. ------------------------------------------------------- ***When I used my old geforce mx4000 with my above config, I get a Restart Your Computer error, but it is easily solved by removing nvdaresman.kext. With this card, QE/CI is not supported, But I can still play videos of any format except dvds. ***With my geforce fx5200 agp, no errors encountered, i used diabolik natit to enable QE/CI. Findibulator
Thanks for the input! Just to clarify - I do know many people's configs are in their signatures. But as far as I can tell, that's not a searchable field.. So post away! It may help to mention the install / config difficulty level. Again, I'm trying to get us a good "look here first before asking the same old question again" thread.
