It's simply a matter of how much money you want spend, Intel boxes are cheaper then Mac's.

Also keep in mind that this version that every one is using will never be authorized for updates from Apple.

Also at some point the hacking the OS to run on your PC will not be possible and you will need Apple only hardware.

I was wondering if I should build a hackintosh? or should I dish out the money to buy a dual 1.8ghz g5? I'll primarily use the machine for FCP and aperture. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you can afford it and want trouble-free functionality, go for the real Mac. I'd guess that not many people are actually using their 'hackintosh' systems for really serious day-to-day computing at this stage (go on, shoot me down if you want) because of incompatibilities, glitches and sometimes slow performance. Plus you'll be legal, and isn't that a nice feeling?

Best advice I've seen on this forum to date regardign the topic.

Well actually i think the finished product will be as hackable as this and for funtionality theyre wont be no differance if there is then whats the point !!!!

Now I can't say much about the intel based macs due, but from a standpoint using a real imac g5, the answer is clear. Beautiful, speedy and stable, well designed and space efficient. If you're looking for a quick trick to show a couple friends, buy the hackintosh anyway :(. I know i like showing mine. What I love even more are the response from people who use it and preach they'll buy an apple. It's nice when people actually give something they "hate" a chance.

That's what happened to me! LOL

As for the topic, my advice, aside from money, is to be aware of your computer smarts. If you are a technically proficient person and has lots of good hands-on computer experience, I would go for the hackintosh.

But if you just want things to work with no hassles whatsoever, always go for the real thing. But I would definitely wait until the Intel macs are out if you can. In fact, I bought a dual 2.5 G5 last April, and then a month later when they announced the Intel macs, I sold my mac immediately, even though I loved it, so that I could get back as much money from it as possible. The reason was because I know that I am a proficient enough person to build my own Intel Mac as soon as it was possible.

It's true that I miss my G5, but I am very hopeful about the future :-) /end sob story
