Hey I was wondering if I could run OSX on the HP Pavilion tx1000?

I'm just considering buying it and won't be able to buy it for another month or 2.

The main concern I have about this is that it has a touch screen, and since apple doesn't make one, I don't know if it would work well under Mac OS X. I do know about the ModBook though. If you don't, it's a modded MacBook where the screen is replaced with a touchscreen, and it seems to work great.

I customized it a bit to my liking; the changes are as follows:

-AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 (2.0 GHz, 512KB+512KB L2 Cache )

-12.1"WXGA High-Def HP BrightView Widescreen Display(1280 x 800) w/Integrated Touch-screen

-2GB DDR2 Memory 2 DIMMs

-Fingerprint Reader

-Bluetooth

-160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

See more info on HP's site

I'll also be triple booting it with Vista and Ubuntu Linux.

Using Mac OS X is my primary concern so I'll need to know if OS X will work before I pay over $1000 for it.

Hopefully someone has tested this or has some idea on it. Thanks in advance!

As you have mentioned that "using Mac OSX is your primary concern", and you are about to pay over $1000 for a new Laptop. If I were to be at your position I would go for a Apple MacBook with almost the same config. You can also wait for the OSX-Leopard to be released in few months and this will make sure sure that your MacBook Comes with the latest OSX-Leopard which has Bootcamp by default. So, in all you will get OSX running without any headache as well as you can install other OS like Vista & Ubuntu Linux.

This was just my opinion.... :)

I am new to this OSX86 arena.. and am sure you can find lots of talented people out here who can help you out with your questions...

Cheers :|

Yes, I completely understand what you mean, and I have been considering a MacBook well before I found out about this OSx86 thing. My only problem with them is that Apple doesn't offer a tablet notebook. A tablet is not something I desperately need right now, but just something that would make my computing life a lot easier. Since HP's offering is so cheap compared to the ModBook (which is over $2000) it makes more sense to me to get the Pavilion instead of anything else.

Hey...

I have purchased on of tx1003au models with a gig of ram and 120gig hdd..

n vista is fine but m searching wether tiger will support the touchscreen and fingerprint scanner

since osx is not my main concern but i will want to try installing it

will post my progress as and wen i am successful as for now the keyboard and touchpad aint working on the installation screen wireless seems to be detected properly and as its an nforce board i guess there might be errors wid hard drive too lets see ....

:)

well as far as trackpad goes it works well with no double tap though :) ...

i upgraded to latest bios f13 version i guess after tht it was able to recognize it...

now the sad part i guess tht hdd is on sata channel so no installing on hdd as it is not shown in diskutil..

so for now handicapped install..as u dont get ur internal hdd to install osx on it...wil try on externaL ONE THOUGH i giuess the speed will suffer which i dont want :(

lets see further were i am able to go installing osx on this lappy...

will try sabayon linux (downloading now)...as suse linux enterprise desktop 10 with sp1 not working out of the box..

i'll keep posted on trials on osx...

Do USB Keyboards and Mouses work?

now the sad part i guess tht hdd is on sata channel

what do you mean by it's "on sata channel"? And why would that not let it show up in diskutil? Don't the mac books also use SATA hdd's?

Also, can the internal hdd be replaced by another, and would that solve the problem?

I hope I'm not flooding you with too many questions...I just need to know everything I can about this machine and OS X. :)

EDIT: I just thought about this, how about installing OS X on a Flash Drive, and maybe saving personal files on the internal hdd/external hd/more flash drives

Oh, here in the USA flash drives are pretty cheap, you can get a 2GB one for about US$40, and that was 1 year ago, it's probably a lot cheaper now. I'm just wondering if you would install onto a flash drive would the internal drive show up in the finder?

Anyway, did you try out linux, and how did that work

With all these problems, I'm starting to think that a MacBook will just be better for me, even without the touchscreen. I might just end up getting one of those.

m sorry dude but m still downloading....

and it wud be better if u want mac os x get urself a macbook....

linux as of now...ubuntu not pleasant experience

fedora aint starting

sled not starting properly

sabayon dloading...:)

vista is the only one which rocks on this system...

lets see i will go for modbook asy by next year as of now tx1003 is my destination

albeit wont stop experimenting till m satisfied...
