The Second Gen iMac...

 

350 mhz to 500 (Motorola) ( Very nice ) 512k Cache

600+ Mhz (IBM) ( not nice ) 256K Cache

 

The 350 mhz Version is very over clockable to 450.

its just the 350's didn't have firewire, kind of a bummer.

 

2 Memory Slots (PC-100 or PC-133 Friendly)

Max 512 Megs in each slot

 

Hard drive (120 Gb Max)

ATA 33 (Your Stuck)

 

If you have the opportunity to get a 500 mhz iMac or a 600 mhz

Choose the 500 Mhz because it will be way faster of a Mac...

 

The Switch to IBM @ 600mhz was a sad day.

 

What can you do with a Second Generation iMac?

Well that is a Great Question, Depending on how much memory you have installed.

Your only limitation with Safari would be Flashed Based Video.

If you are not running at-least the 500 MHZ motorola

with a 7200 RPM Drive with a Min of 512 ram, Flash

video will not be very watch-able. And if you have a 600 mhz

IBM just forget about it all together.

 

Also... H.264 yup forget about that because its not going to

be watch-able no matter what.

 

Other then that, Most everything will work great.

even widgets in tiger.

Well the slot-loading iMacs are dead-sexy, IMO, especially when fully upgraded and running OS X like that. Just don't use the hockey-puck mouse! Wow, what a piece of {censored}. I see you don't though...

The Apple switched to ibm with with the iBook at 466 mhz and the iMac at 600mhz... I believe its more then just cache they left out, The ibm was much better at saving power... but the Motorola version of the PPC was just over all a much better chip with the iMac at-least.

I used to have a 500MHz Blue iMac G3 Slot-loading, and holy damn did I absolutely love it. I agree with you 100%.
