Headrush69
I assuming that is a Socket 939 motherboard? If so just pop in a faster X2 or Opteron. If all the peripherals work already what do you have to gain by replacing the motherboard? Don't know too much about fast AMD chips Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58041-a-few-dollars-to-spend/#findComment-414780 Share on other sites
Headrush69
Just want an Intel system and they seem more compatible with OSx86. Don't know too much about fast AMD chips Nah. I had an Opteron 4400+ Dual core and everything worked and was just as compatible as an Intel. The difference being sometimes it took like a week longer for any AMD specific patches to appear after Intel ones. I'm not saying not to if you have the money, but don't expect much if any difference from what you have other than a gain from any speed bumps in the CPU. gyasih
Thanks. I'll look at opteron's then. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58041-a-few-dollars-to-spend/#findComment-414873 Share on other sites
Headrush69
Thanks. I'll look at opteron's then. Or a faster X2. I'm guessing your machine is pretty fast and can handle everything easily already. If not you might have a problem somewhere. Upgrading in this case is just icing on the cake. I think there are better ways to spend $300. Did I mention I accept donations?
