USB sound card causes Skype crash

I just plug in the new 5.1 usb sound card, that I purchase from eBay for less than $10

It appears in the system preferences and I can see the volume bar of the input tab flash when I speak in front of the mic (that means that the sound card should be working)

 

when I use skype to make a test call, the app automatically quit.

the error log in the console shows:
