besby11
Hello ieatbred, What i suggest you do is go on a computer (or partiton with working internet) and google the laptop and the information you want (in this case eathernet) once you get the info on the ethernet go to the hcl (hardware compatibility list) and see if you can find something close to the model then come back here and reserch how to install knex's (its a pain in the arse for newbies trust me it gets easier) and u should be set! Guest Ramm
Specifically, we need to know the chipset (not the manufacturer) of your ethernet card. If it's a realtek, chances are it can be fixed with IONetworkingFamily.kext (search for it). Guest Ramm
That could be an isolated case. Just because that happened to you, doesn't mean it will happen to everyone else. Guest Ramm
Your first account is the administrator account. When you type in "sudo -s" or "sudo su" or any of the like, enter your account password for the FIRST account you created on your Mac. ieatbred
I've tried using the IONetworkingFamily.kext as well as the Realtek1000.kext and still not getting online. network diagnostic said that built-in ethernet failed, its like its not even there. if i bought a wireless card for my laptop, will that work? if i buy one that is compatiable with osx86? Guest Ramm
ieatbread, it should work, as long as, like you said, it's compatible. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56985-internet-not-working/#findComment-408225 Share on other sites
