darthvader4_arg
Hello everyone!, I've been having a few problems while running OSX, I'll try to describe them: First, there's a small rectangle that appears when I scroll throgh web pages (see screenshot). It doesn't affect the operation, but it's quite annoying. It might be related to the Video Card drivers. Second, (might be related to the first), the video card appears as PCI, when it is AGP. Third, sometimes (not always) when I restart the computer I get a message saying the viarhine.kext wasn't loaded correctly. I got round this by copying the kext again in the Extensions folder whenever this message appears and then restart. But I'm shure there's a better way. Fourth, I've installed the Office suite for mac, but it runs TOO slow, Is it just because my computer is slow or it might be something else. It happens the same with aMule. emule and office both run flawlessly under windows. Fifth, the main memory appears with a speed of 0Mhz!? - see screenshot Other than that the system is working great. The specifications are: Asus P4VP-MX motherboard with: -ViaRhine LAN -AC97 Audio (Working great) Celeron 1.7 (s478)-bus 400 -SSE2 1Gb RAM PowerColor ATI 9600PRO - 256mb Any help or tip you can give me on the above issues will be greatly appreciated, Thank you all in advance! JoeyKing
Hi at first: This is often called mouse tearing in this board. I myself suffer also from it...search for mouse tearing in this board an you will find a solution. EDIT: Try this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;#entry89236 It worked fine for me!!!! The good thing that most probably you have hardware accelaration in this case! check the system profiler whether CI and QE is enabled "supported" it says at second: don't care, if you already have CI/QE. You can try AGPGart, but it didn't show any effect in my case. Some say because it is made for AMD and not for intel. at third: no idea at fourth: this is likely because your harddisks run in PIO mode instead of UDMA. I suffer from the same problem...as soon as I have solved it I will help :-) at fifth: I wouldn't care. good lcuk Joey Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56771-list-of-problems-to-solve-please-help/#findComment-406081 Share on other sites
darthvader4_arg
Thanks a lot for your help JoeyKing! I´ve tried MouseLocator with no luck, it did nothing. I also tried Screen Cleaner Pro. It solved the problem, but it has a very disturbing sponge that flyes through your desktop for a while and it also turns your screen a bit darker, so I don´t reccomend it... I´ll keep searching in that link you posted I believe the solution I´m looking for is there, I just have to find it...I´ll tell when I do. Then, you were right about the CI and QE, they´re both supported, so that´s great news!!!. I´ll keep working on this issues and I´ll post any solutions I find... Thank you all, this forum is great!!! mrsteveman1
Usually the display of items in system profiler, such as your AGP/PCI problem, and certain numbers, like memory speed, don't matter. The system obviously works, and having it say that the video card is PCI isn't going to affect anything because its obviously AGP. Also, the memory speed isn't set by OS X, it is set at boot time by the BIOS which OS X has no control over, so any incorrect display shouldn't cause problems unless programs are specifically checking the memory speed for some reason. There are cases where it does matter, like CPU speed which CAN be controlled by OS X, but this isn't one of them. Copying a kext back to the right place, and then loading it, can be done in a script to run automatically at boot. Office for Mac is a PowerPC binary, and just like most PPC binaries, is running with Rosetta which makes it slow. If you want to test this effect you can force universal binaries to load with Rosetta instead of native to see if they slow down. It's in the "Get Info" window for the specific .app bundle in question. This option wont appear for PPC binaries, only Universal. You might check if beam sync is turned off, it can actually cause screen tearing depending on the type of display. You might also check if there are other drivers you can use for the video card, see if anything changes. darthvader4_arg
mrsteveman1 thanks for your post, it really helped me understand more about these issues. I´d like to know how can I create the script you mention, I´ve no idea of how that works but it sounds like it could solve my kext problem, so I´d really appreciate a detailed explanation on that. Thanks again to everyone! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/56771-list-of-problems-to-solve-please-help/#findComment-408133 Share on other sites
