From the wikis, etc. it seems that audio should work fine under OSX. Well, it's not my case. I have OSX 10.4.8 installed right now, and it does not work. No sound at all.

Everything else seems fine, got my wireless adapter working, using natit to run my dual monitor set up on a 7300 LE, ...

Does anyone have any advice on getting my audio working?

I believe the audio controller's the following: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller, but I don't know where to start!

Curious that Integrated Sound doesn't seem to work out of the box for you.

Firstly, are you sure you looked through all the packages when Installing from the DVD? I can't recall exactly (nor do I know what DVD you're using), but I know there might've been an AC'97 modified package on my JaS DVD.

Anyways. If you can figure out the Device/Hardware ID of the card, you can try adding it to the AppleAC97Audio.kext, and see if that does the trick.

Lastly, as stupid as it sounds, I have integrated sound on my Dell desktop as well. For the longest time though, I was under the impression it was just not supported, after trying countless kexts and patches. Turns out, I forgot I was actually using the sound from my recently upgraded SB Audigy Card, instead of the integrated chip. >

So you could always try checking your connections too.

There WERE some modified packages but from what I recall, none of them seemed to fit my system (and yeah, I am using a JaS DVD).

I should also mention that I previously made an install of OSX 10.4.4 (JaS as well)... but that one did not and sound did not work either.

About the connections, I'm completely sure they are right.

If 'all' else fails, could you please provide a link ... or type up a brief summary :o ... of how to find a hardware ID and where to put it in the kext? though I might be able to figure that out if there's some type of pattern... but so far I haven't ever opened a .kext.

Thanks for the help so far!

EDIT: Well, I tried the installation once again... the only audio patches were some Azadia and Sigmatel9220 packages.

I gave the Sigmatel package a try, knowing for sure that I did not have any Azadia HD audio, etc., (and a google search for 'sigmatel 4700' associated Sigmatel and Dell PCs).

Anyway, still no audio ;)

So.... about hardware IDs...

An update:

Turns out there was actually an error with the connections :D

Well... it seems that the speakers work only when connected to a different output.. a black one, actually (instead of the usual green one).

I had tried this before but I'm not too sure if I tried it on the black connector... since it's not very visible. Maybe the Sigmatel patch did work after all.

Thanks for the help!

  • 4 weeks later...

I had the same problem . . . I was wondering if there was a way to get the correct ports going so perhaps audio-in would work . . . I happen to use my microphone a lot ;).

sorry to double post but I'd really love to know if there is anyone out there who has any suggestions for this issue.

thanks
