My old hackintosh and powerbook is getting a little outdated so ive decided to get a new setup.

I've spent sleepless nights reading the posts on what, what not to get but this time around i cant seem to decide.

So what im building off of its a Q6600 Core 2 Quad. I really need help picking a Mobo....i was also eyeing an Asus 8600GT gfx card. Ive got money to spend a the board so i need one that is close to 100%. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!. Thanks

Hey,

Personally provided your system supports it, i.e. you have SATA hard drives rather than IDE etc. I'd recommend a P35 based board, as they will have support for Intel's new "Penryn" processors which are coming out later this year, along with DDR3 memory support - I've seen reports at least certain P35 boards are hackintosh compatible on the forums.

Currently 8x00 series cards support is few and far between cards above 256MB aren't supported currently, and even 256MB card support is limited... however if you're going to buy one anyway - I'd recommend going for something like the a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB PCIe card instead (like I did yesterday), as to be honest you won't get that good performance from a 8600 GT even at low resolutions/graphics modes on newer games* - I recommended BFG for the pre-overclocked card (as standard) lifetime warranty, and because it has lots of goodies as standard (Two DVI to VGA adapters, Dual 4-pin Molex to single 6-pin PCI Express power adapter, HDTV dongle, BFG Custom T-shirt and BFG custom fan stickers) - also GT's do no support HDCP - so if you went with one you wouldn't be able to use BluRay/HD DVD disks on your PC, where as GTS series come with HDCP support as standard so if you're not in the market for a 8800 GTS, at least get a 8600 GTS rather than GT if you want it to be useful in the future! - Though you may have to wait a while for it to be OSx86 compatible... but I think it'd be worth it.

*Something someone told me... If you are only gaming at 1024 x 768 or something you might find one 8600 gt will do you nicely for a little while - if you don't mind running without AA and medium settings on new games one would be adequate.
