Mebster
At the moment I have two computers in my house. A Hackintosh, which runs OS X & XP and will run Ubuntu soon which is connected to my wireless Netgear router via eithernet. I also have a G3 running OS X 10.4 which is wireless enabled. I'm likely to purchase another pc and also a MacBook sometime soon hopefully. I basically want to be able to access all the partitions (NTFS, HFS+ & FAT32) on my Hackingtosh from my G3 and also be able to access the G3's partition from my Hackingtosh's OS X and XP partitions. Hackingtosh: OS X, XP, Data Partitions G3: OS X, Data Partitions If would appreciate if someone would guide me as to how to about setting this but because I have no networking experience (even in Windows only). Thanks a lot ~ AcePlayer Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/55899-creating-a-wireless-network-hackingtosh-os-x-xp-date-with-g3-os-x-date/ Share on other sites
frizbot
I'd suggest setting up wired ethernet. It can be difficult, but wireless has difficulties (especially when transferring large files). Networking under OS X and Windows, that's tough. I suggest setting up Samba (SMB). That's windows sharing. Under OS X, it's clicking "Windows Sharing" in the Sharing control panel. In Windows, it's making sure that file and network sharing is on, and then rightclick a folder->properties->sharing->enable. I've had difficulties using OS X as a SMB client, but that's just because the finder treats a network drive like a hardware drive, waiting for the completed I/O to continue doing anything. Once you have sharing set up, post here for info on setting up the clients. Hi, I've this got this issue so I'll reply to the same thread. Thanks for you help but creating a wired network just isn't an great idea for me. My pc and mac are on two floors and so dragging an ethernet wire is going to be tough and messy. If anyone knows of a way to set up a wireless network between the two I would be really greatful if you could help.
