Boot Camp 1.3 and input remapper issue keyboard backlight

I have a MBP, original series, July 2006. XP Pro Sv Pac 2.0 installed. On the Mac side I have 10.4.8.

I just ran the upgrade to boot camp 1.3 (mainly due to the constant trackpad issues of the earlier versions). I had left this issue alone since everything else worked and I didn't want to introduce anymore problems.

After the installation process, I was pleasantly surprised to see the machine come back up. So far the only issue I have is that there appears to be a conflict between input remapper and the keyboard backlighting (which Apple started supporting in boot camp 1.3). My version of input remapper is 0.1A which I am sure is older than the most current.

I hesitate to remove it since it's the only tool I have found that will control the fans on this machine. The fans IMO are critical and I don't want to lose that control if I upgrade to a more current version.

Does anyone have any ideas? or suggestions?

So far all else is working fine.

Thanks

Paul Caldwell

Surprised to see no one else has this issue, if you upgraded to 1.3 of boot camp.

Net, you will run into a problem with the input remapper's keyboard backlight control and the new Apple Driver. The two will conflict with each other and cause the keyboard backlight to start blinking, eventually going out.

It's most unfortunate as the only way to fix this I could find is to totally uninstall the input remapper software, and reinstall the 1.3 boot camp drivers. If you just take off input remapper, you will still get a problem so I will assume that the uninstall doesn't completely take all the drivers off your machine.

The downside to this is that you can't run input remapper's fan control which IMO is very important on a MBP due to the fact that XP doesn't seem to ever increase the fan speed. At least on my machine I never could see an increase. The processor was hitting around 70 to 80 degrees and still no increase in speed.

The only way I have found a solution that works is to boot up under OSX, and run SMCfancontrol, then restart the machine (don't power down) in XP. As long as the machine is not powered off, you will keep the fan speed from the SMCfan control in OSX.

Again not a perfect solution, but one that seems to work.

Sad to say that I had to remove input remapper as it has been a wonderful program.
