Hard drive speed too low! help plzz

Why do you think my hard drive speed is soooo low? how can i fix it? is it my hard drive?

 

i did a Uncached Read test and here is what i got

2.12 MB/sec [256K blocks]

 

which seems like 20x too slow

(it did that kind of slowness for every hard drive test.)

 

its a pretty old hard drive, but ive had it run faster before with xp (i think)

 

 

ps. im soo happy i just got 10.4.8 working on my $300 p4. 3ghz. the only thing thats not working right is this hard drive speed.
