irri
I have old SSE2 AMD Althlon 64 3000+ which is meant to run at 1800MHz, but is overclocked to 2250Mhz. It's very happy at that speed and doesn't even need extra voltage. Does the SSE3 instruction set make a big difference? Would I see big improvements with an Intel 6600 2.4GHz? I just managed to "borrow" 4GB of 3200 mem from work and wondering... Should I stick with what I have or go for a new mobo, Intel chip, and 1066 RAM? idividebyzero
I had that processor and it was fine, sse2 vs sse3 really isnt that big of a deal. But yes you would see big improvements with the intel since its an extremely faster processor regardless of sse2 or sse3.
irri
Even though the AMD is 2.25GHz and the Intel is 2.4GHz? Does the dual core make a big difference? I thought that many apps were single threaded and could only really utilize a single core. You've clocked a 1.8GHz to 3GHz? Should I get a cheaper chip and spend more on cooling? Are you using air or liquid cooling?
