Clean install to overwrite 10.4.1 on dual-boot machine?

I installed 10.4.1 on my Thinkpad T30 using the deadmoo image in a dual-boot configuration with windows. I've tried to update to 8f1099 using the patched ISO, but the installer hangs, so I'm going to try burning the DVD again.

However, when I most recently tried to update, I noticed that I had less free space than before (as if each botched upgrade attempt was leaving stuff on the drive), and I'm wondering what the state of my installation will be even if I successfully upgrade it.

I don't mind doing a clean install - all my documents etc. are on a separate FAT32 partition - and at this point I'd like to just burn a new DVD and try a fresh install. Is this going to be a problem? I did the deadmoo image install in the first place because it seemed like some people were concerned about doing a native DVD install on a dual-boot system (I have one hard drive, by the way - it's a laptop). If I shouldn't worry and a clean install from the DVD will work, I'll do it - otherwise I'll try more of this upgrading mess, even if will leave me with a bunch of {censored} from the failed attempts.

Thanks!
