kyl191
I cannot shut down or restart my installation. It just goes to a blue screen, and then seemingly hangs. I have to manually turn it off. platform=ACPI does not help at boot time, and platform=x86 does not boot. Any ideas? macgirl
It's a known and old issue. Not remember if it is on the Wiki, but we should put in the FAQ. On some systmes Shutting down and Restarting work perfect with ACPI. As old systems X86PC can only restart but wont shutdown. you need to type correctly, is platform=X86PC Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5236-shutdownrestart-problems/#findComment-33249 Share on other sites

I entered platform=x86, not X86PC. Hmm... Will try later. Busy now... kyl191
Ok, tried platform=x86pc, and platform=X86PC. Both of them pause during the bootup process. No kernel panics it seems, but pauses at this line: 'AppleMTRRSupport: Enabled Write-Combining for memory range d0000000:400000 ' Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?? Boots up fine if no startup options are entered, or even if platform=ACPI is entered. Just can't shut down. witzer
i put the same "platform=x86pc" line to my boot list and it resulted in can't find driver for x86pc. i'm installing from release1 DVD. kyl191
Hm. I installed it from the PHE*NIX dmg, after conversion and all that. I did try the release 1 dvd, but that failed to install. Wouldn't even start. 'Hardware platform not supported', when I booted from the release 1 dvd... Odd, no? Lastest update: When I Log off, then select shutdown from the login screen/menu, the screen goes blank, then white text appears at the top left with, 'continuing', 'done', and 'CPU halted'. I then have to turn it off manually. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5236-shutdownrestart-problems/#findComment-33644 Share on other sites
kyl191
Latest latest update: passing platform=acpi, and platform=x86pc still do nothing, except x86pc still prevents it from booting. scousi
My problem is that whatever I do, shutdown or restart .. it restarts without shuting down. I have to press the power button while in BIOS post to shut it down.
