It's a known and old issue. Not remember if it is on the Wiki, but we should put in the FAQ.

On some systmes Shutting down and Restarting work perfect with ACPI.

As old systems X86PC can only restart but wont shutdown.

you need to type correctly, is platform=X86PC

It has to be 'X86PC'? I entered platform=x86, not X86PC. Hmm... Will try later. Busy now...

Ok, tried platform=x86pc, and platform=X86PC. Both of them pause during the bootup process. No kernel panics it seems, but pauses at this line: 'AppleMTRRSupport: Enabled Write-Combining for memory range d0000000:400000 ' Any ideas on what could have gone wrong?? Boots up fine if no startup options are entered, or even if platform=ACPI is entered. Just can't shut down.

Hm. I installed it from the PHE*NIX dmg, after conversion and all that. I did try the release 1 dvd, but that failed to install. Wouldn't even start. 'Hardware platform not supported', when I booted from the release 1 dvd... Odd, no?

Lastest update: When I Log off, then select shutdown from the login screen/menu, the screen goes blank, then white text appears at the top left with, 'continuing', 'done', and 'CPU halted'. I then have to turn it off manually.
