i have a fully functional 10.4.3 (1099) installation on the above system. the onboard video works without problem. i dropped in a 9800pro (agp) and the system hangs on boot. it gets to the grey apple screen with the gray pinwheel and then the pinwheel stops turning and the boot hangs. i tried reinstalling the os with the board installed -- the installation proceeds without difficulty, but hangs on boot at the same place. if i remove the board and use the onboard intel 900 chip, the machine boots like normal. is there something i am missing with getting this combo to work, or is this somehow due to asrock's funky implementation of the AGP interface?

edit -- i will try it again tonight with verbose boot and see if i can see where it hangs.

so booting in -v mode gives the usual boot information, however several times the following shows up:

display: family specific matching fails

after the following line:

localhost .../loginwindow: Login Window Application Started

the system hangs at:

display: vram [f0000000:080000000]

i am able to boot in safe mode, but compared to native with the gm900 video support, this is suboptimal.

any ideas as to what is going on?
