What is stronger? 7300GT or ATI X1600?

F irst, I got the dual DVI 7300GT which is stock in MAC PRO tower.

The Mac Book Pro uses ATI X1600 and I noticed that when using Final Cut Pro on the MAC BOOK PRO, you can do a lot of edits without RENDERING. Just want to know opionions. The price differences is not that great.

Also, since I have the KEXT installed for the Nvidia and get a card thats on the HCL List for DUAL, will I be able to at least BOOT with a new card, just not with QE/CI until correct kext installed?

Don't want to spend too much money.

If anyone wants to help me pick a better card for Final Cut Pro (even though the stock Mac Pro ships with 7300 GT Dual DVI), they can go to

www.mwave.com and see if the see one with DUAL DVI and on the LIST. Tried looking for cards printed out from the HCL list but the choices are far and few and you really have to drop some DIME to get a card that does a lot $300+, yet as I said before, the X1600 (only a few dollars more than my current card) is working great (what I've seen) on the Mac Book Pros.

So how close are the two? 7300GT X1600 Mobile?

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the heads up!!!!!!!

you will never get dual extended out of an x1600 (all you get is mirrored) in a hackintosh like you can with nvidia cards.

Just a Forewarning :)

Yeah I saw that on there site! Use new egg all the time, I can though, drive to Mwave! :-)

Wish they had that card there maybe they can order it and I can return the 7300. Is there that much of a difference when using the 8300 vs GT 7600 for Final cut, or should I just ride it out and wait until I can splash $349 or so for a 8800 series?

The 7300 GT as you promised worked like a charm, just want the best for editing and MOTION apparently uses the most GPU. Regarding the 8800 series (not sure if the Natit would work) it is also Direct X 10 ready. If I return the 7300 GT card and get another HIGHER end, I probably would not have to pay that stupid re-stockin c rap fee. Thus looking at Mwave and I didn't want to order from NEW EGG as what if it didn't work, with Mwave I could drive it back same day.

Advice?

Thanks!

Meaning, anything at mwave that looks good or would the 7600 GT BE FINE for editing?

Thanks!
