cbmkgd
You have an onboard audio card? There could be also external cards (usb). Check the hardware section, or the osx86 wiki hcl. dakine
I was battling with sound compatiblity also, I have a SB audigy 2 card that didn't work, the onboard sound was was weird also, ie. sound coming out of the wrong plugs, like left and right speakers coming out of rear and center speakers and such. I finally just bought a SB Live external USB device that works flawlessly right out of the box. I am so glad I got it, now sound is great in OS X and Windows. SPDIF OUT works also.
